well, for reasons beyond my comprehension, i cannot get this guy to stop letting other jobs interefere with completion of this project - delay after delay - if the guy didn't do such great work, i'd have bailed a long time ago

i am all but certain this is my last batch though - i can't handle this frustration

ok - after 6 months of waiting for the welder to get my job going, i finally threw my hands up and went outside - i am involving another company to handle a large portion of the process now, and should finally be able to crank these danged things out - i will absorb the additional costs - i want these things done dang it

the upside is that i found a better powder coater during this process

woohoo! progress!

i'm doing all the running around and babysitting this stuff myself now to make sure it gets done

what i thought was going to be days turned into a month when the laser cutter took a dump right after starting my job - figures - took until last week to get it fixed

got the parts back today and dropped them off at the welder - he says next week

after that the powder coater (should be a bout a week there max) and then it's shipping time

i see the light at the end of the tunnel

as a matter of fact, yes

i spoke with the welder yesterday, and half of them are welded and the others wrapping up in the next couple of days - then all off to the powder coater

as soon as all of them have been dropped off at the powder coater, i will email everybody so i can get shipping information, and then collect the rest of the money

this has definitely been the most difficult and time consuming project

i believe all of the units are now welded - when i spoke to him on friday he was wrapping them up

i know the welder is having a baby (they are inducing labor today), but expect to hear from him by the end of the week that the units are ready for powdercoating

Flash,

Do you have a CAB brace that I can buy? All I want is just the brace itself for streeat use only so that I can keep my cubby storage area in place. I also plan to add the rear wind break plate that Sunset sells.

the last batch of these is going to the powder coater this week - they are all currently spoken for

i finally got everything scanned and programmed, allowing me to minimize the time at the welder's shop, thereby removing that clog in the system, allowing me to actually complete these things in a reasonable time frame in teh future - i never should have buried him with such a large time and space consuming project

so, i can now make them in one-off form, but the cost is going to be higher, as i still have to pay the minumum setup on the bending, and my powdercoating costs went up - with all the delays at the welder, this project took long enough for me to lose a couple of vendors, and have my costs go up - i'm not happy about it, but that's the way it goes

i haven't figured out how much yet - i will be able to do that in about a week, when i see where this ended up

I don't have a cab, and thus haven't been following this thread too closely, but the end result is beautiful! I hope it ends up being worth all your aggravation. I guess the pain factor in producing them sort of dims the prospects for the coupe brace, though... Well, in any event, congrats on how all your hard work has paid off in bringing a great product to the 968 community.

thanks for the kind words

it'll take a bit for me to recover from this one, but i'll be able to start looking at it soon

the big decision i made was to do these one at a time instead of batches - as nice as it is to knock them all out at once, and cut some costs, the reality is that it takes a danged year to get them done - i love the welder guy, and he does amazing work, but it's just too hard to get these out the door in batches

what i really need is a hardtop to look at and compare to see what i need to move and such - i think i have it worked out in my head, but i really need to see a car for an hour or so

i've got all the shipping materials now (hardware finally came in), but i got nailed by a couple of contractors that failed to make their promised schedules, essentially evicting me from my garage for 3 days - now i am cramming to get ready for a track day saturday and won't get a chance to cut the lumber and pack the units until sunday for shipment monday

sorry guys - it has been just nuts around here - i seriously underestimated the lameness of these contractors - now i know why people constantly complain about remodling

here is a shot of them all packed and ready (i think i must have been part spider in a previous life - lol)

The packing is certainly different from what was on mine when it arrived at the Newark, NJ Greyhound terminal. Ah, the "glory" of being at the head of the line. These look like they should arrive with none of the issues I had to deal with. Nicely done, Flash.
