I was thinking about adding the Brey-Krause Lower Front Cross Brace (R-1524) to my suspension setup and wondered if anyone had any experience with this product?

This cross brace bolts between the rearmost mounting points of the front control arms. It resists deflection of the chassis at those points, which can occur under heavy braking and cornering. The R-1524 was designed with obsessive attention to minimizing weight. Precision waterjet machining allows for an intricate structure, providing superior stiffness at an exceptionally light weight.



Material:    6061 T-6 aluminum skeleton, 304 stainless steel mount brackets

Finish:    Anodized aluminum

Weight:  2.6 lbs

Models:  Porsche 944 (1985 ½ -1992), 968

Installation:  Bolts to rear bushing housings of front control arms

Miscellaneous: 



-For best results, use hardened control arm bushings

-924 and early 944 models can be adapted by using late 944 alloy control arms and bushing mounts

I will definitely give pete a call, which is what I was going to do anyways. I just thought I would try and do a little research first. I have posted the question on several boards in the hopes I will get some responses. I also noticed when I looked at the bottom of the car that there is a plate covering that area. I assume I am going to have to remove the plate to put the brace on. Thanks for the reply Mark! ;-)

Hmmm... I was wondering if the 968 had a metal undertray there. My car's is removed. Of course, I still have one in my garage that I removed from my turbo. It's not really necessary. It's just there to help clean-up airflow underneath the car, and hold heat in while making oil changes difficult.



If you want the chassis brace just remove the undertray.



Have you used RS Barn for maintenance before? I ask because their shop is only 35 miles from my office and I need an alignment.

I believe the metal undertray was stock on mine. I still have the original cassette deck that works! Lucky for you to have pete so close. I currently live in Phoenix, so, it would be a drive but I might take a trip and visit rs barn! I am still planning on the turbo conversion. Thanks for the comments.

RSBarn does not have an alignment machine, unless somethings changed in the last few months.. I use Pete as my mechanic and I'm in Maryland. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

the metal tray has only been on 92s so far as i've see - no idea why they deleted it, because it works well - it probably will not work with the brey-krause unit without modification though - i think i may have the same problem with the cross brace i have designed, and will see a prototype of any day now



just a note on the brey-krause, you will need an alignment, and i believe it will require some modification to install on a 968, as it was designed for a 944 - i believe pete has worked this out though, and can walk you through it



on the tray, i went out of my way to track down and install the metal tray in my 94 - it, like the other belly pans, really does a nice job of smoothing the underbody air flow, which is key to limiting front end lift at high speed, and to facilitating engine cooling



i have actually gone a step farther, and am almost finished with similar plates which will cover almost the entire underbody of the car

ok - i think i mispoke - it seems there may be a version 2 of the unit that now works on the 968 - pete apparently went a step beyond a mod and got brey krause to work up a second version implenting his changes

I have the metal tray on my '93. I'm going to change the oil for the first time soon. Is it advisable to remove the tray for the oil change? It looks like leaving it there will make a mess.

Same on my 93. I just got and haven't changed my oil yet but; looked at it when I did my WP. Yes take it off as it will run all over from the looks of it (thats my plan) it comes off rather easy with the car on stands.
