Boxster S II wheels
#21

Bummer, had a set of 17" Boxster SII wheels / tires for sale in very good condition, with RA-1's. Sold them for $850.... I digress...

Be careful of the fitment. I had to use a 8mm spacer on the fronts and I did not really like that using them. Caused no issues, but I am not a fan of wheel spacers in general.

Rear's fit fine.
nice looking wheel - ds968 asked me about these the other day - i told him to note the widths - 7 and 8.5, as opposed to the 7.5 and 9 of what the car came with in 17s, and what he already had on the car
Yup, love those wheels but no way near what I need in terms of dimensions ( I want to get rid of the spacers - 15mm rear and 20mm front right now )

and have the wheel offset itself fill that space..and be less than 20 lbs each, and allow me to keep the 265 rear / 235 fronts.. sigh. Nothing of the sort out there, except custom made ones and I'm not about to put $ 10k worth of wheels on a $ 15k car...

Dragging up this old thread...I just scored a very nice set of these Boxster S II wheels from a low mileage '03 Boxster. Now I almost have as many sets of wheels as PorsheDude! They are the same as specified in this thread so I figured I'd post my question here:

7 x 17 ET55 front with 205/50
8.5 x 17 ET48 rear with 255/40

I'll be replacing the tires with the same stock sizes listed but my question is will I need/should I use a spacer for the rear? I always get confused doing "spacer math". Stock 17" were 9" wide but at what offset? Our stock 16" are 8" wide and 52 offset. Am I correct in thinking that a 4mm spacer may be necessary or will the extra 1/2" width combined with the smaller offset "fill out" the rear well enough? Thanks in advance offset gurus.

I would like to put 255's on the back but 8.5 is at the bottom of the recommended sizes for all the tires I would consider.

255's on 9" wheels pulls them in a bit.

I just bought these 17" Boxter wheels.

The rear went on no problem, but the front would not slide over the cap on the hub...

Does anyone know what size spacer is necessary?

Does the rear also require a spacer?

Wheels came with "el cheapo" tires, so I want to swap my current tires to these wheels.

The front wheels have 215/45-17 on them... will my 225/45-17 tires fit OK?

The rear wheels have 255/40-17 on them, which is the same that I have.

All I can say is the 225 will fit where the 215's were. Rim widths are fairly forgiving when it comes to the range of fitment. Can't comment on anything else as I don't want to endanger you guesses. At least you don't have to wear sunglasses when you look at the Boxter wheels.

Chrome wheels for sale soon? Look nice on a Vette

Dale's Alignment in Langley will attempt to make these fit tommorow when they do the tire swap (if the wheels can be made to fit).

The "dust cap" on the front hub has a small "lip" that protrudes past the hub outer circumference, which does not allow the hub to slip into the center of the wheel. They think that it is just a matter of replacing the dust cap OR "shaving the lip down.

They are the "professionals"...

They also confirmed that the 225 tires will fit.

Chrome wheels will NOT be sold. I will wait to have them re-done someday, since they are the factory "originals". It was WAY cheaper to buy these 986 wheels than to re-do the ones I have, since the peeling chrome is a PIA to remove and prep for a new finish.

I also will have them check the wheel alignment they did, because on Saturday when I went out for the first BBC (Bob's Breakfast Club "fun run" of 2012), the rear seemed to be "twitching" a bit as I pressed hard around corners. I want a more "planted" feeling.

They did NOT attempt to re-size the dust cap. They claim that the hub is WAY larger than the "hole" in the wheel and that this wheel will not work unless the center is machined out to fit the hub size! I read through the previous posts in this thread and realize that others used an 8mm spacer on the front to make them work. I will go to a "wheel repair" location tommorow (well spoken of by the local PCA members) and see if they have the proper spacer to make these work,,,

I bought a set of 7mm H&R Trak+ Wheel Spacers (1/4") and now the front Boxster SII wheels fit just fine

The wheel spacers came with longer studs that replace the original. The front tires line up very nice with the front fenders. I think I will also buy a pair of 7mm spacers for the rear, since they could move out 1/4" to be "flush" with the rear fenders.

I will post a picture tomorrow.

Oh... ya...

I just received a piece of "junk" mail from Porsche for "Classic Service & Parts. That's what you get when you sign up for the 1-year "free" Roadside Assistance - they now have my address and send "junk" mail my way! Anyways... in that "junk" mail flyer, my original 17" wheels can be bought for a "measly" $1278 EACH wheel! Wow! I bought the Boxster SII wheels in "like new" condition for $680, which included some "decent" tires! Spent another $100 for the wheel spacers.

Went for a nice long cruise on the Sea to Sky Highway with the wife yesterday afternoon and finally got around to taking a picture with the "new" SII wheels. The front fit nicely now with the 7mm H&R Trak+ Wheel Spacers.

I will be taking the car back to the alignment place to have the rear re-set. I also will have them check the rear height, since I think they set it a little too low...

They look a lot nicer than the chromies. Can't see a shot of that new splitter yet, not on perhaps? I'm getting quite good at fearing each new driveway and conquering it. I noticed that 968TDG also has SII wheels on his RED coupe. That was the coupe they worked a "miracle" on at Flash's detail day.

You welcome!

I stumbled across them by fluke, but I have had nothing but positive feedback on the look.

Now I need to get the Club Sport steering wheel and then the car will have made a leap forward as far as "modernizing" the look...

I just put a Momo Jet in my car so if you make it to Black Rock for a visit you can have a peek; maybe a drive too and test out the new splitter and the SC
