nice looking wheel - ds968 asked me about these the other day - i told him to note the widths - 7 and 8.5, as opposed to the 7.5 and 9 of what the car came with in 17s, and what he already had on the car

Here is what they should look like on the car.

I like 'em. You should be able to find a used, good condition set relatively easily. They'll be easier to keep clean in comparison to the Sport Classics too!

Keep in mind the standard 17" 968 wheels were 7.5" wide in the front and 9" wide in the rear. Check the offsets of these Boxster wheels to ensure they will fit and you may need small spacers to clear the hub dust caps and also for looks....

My 17" Sport Classics (7" front and 9" rear) sit a little too far "in" on the rear. If I were keeping the car, I would add spacers or adapters on the rear to "fill" out the well some more. I do have small spacers on the front (8mm I believe) to help clear the caps. They may not be necessary, but they were a good price and I was still able to engage the lug nut enought turns to be safe.

Are there any real negatives to having the 8.5" on the back besides limiting how large of a tire I can stuff under the back? Smaller = lighter too.

I like then also but would rather see it in an 18"

PS nice job with the photoshop Wolf. That really helps.

For normal street / daily driving, there shouldn't be any discernable issues. Perhaps if you are trying to squeeze out every last second on a track, there could be issues due to having to set up the suspension to match and whatnot... But for folks like you and I, you will be fine.

smaller may not equal lighter - as an example, the 993 Cup wheel that was available for the 968 is lighter in a 17x9 than the C2 Turbo wheel in a 17x7.5 for the same car

i am going through this right now as i try to decide what to do on my car - i am contemplating removing the HRE 547 18x10 rear and 18x9 front because, while they are a very light rim for their size, and lighter than the C2 Turbos i had on there, they are still considerably heavier than what i can do in a 17 - the tire weight in the size i would choose is pretty close to what i have up front now, but a lot less than what i have in the rear - i can go halfway, and just change to lighter tires, but i can lose as much as 8lbs per corner by going with a super light 17 and light tires - that equates to 164lbs of effective weight over the car

lol - i think i just convinced myself - now i get to start wheel shopping - oh goodie...............

hmmmmm................anybody want to buy a set of 547s with good S0-3s on them?

The Boxster S II's are lighter than the 993 Cups (as per Dave at Wheel Enhancement)

Porsche Factory C2 Turbo

7.5x17” 22 lbs. 1 oz.

9x17” 27 lbs. 2 oz.

Porsche Factory 993 Cup

7.5x17” 19 lbs. 14 oz.

9x17” 22 lbs. 5 oz.

Aftermarket 993 Cup replica

7.5x17” 24 lbs. 2 oz.

9x17” 25 lbs. 7 oz.

Porsche Factory Sport Classic

7x17” 20 lbs. 1 oz.

9x17” 23 lbs. 4 oz.

Porsche Factory Bosxter S II

7x17” 18 lbs. 13 oz.

8.5x17” 21 lbs. 5 oz.

I really like your HRE's, but there are too negatives. They are 18's and the financial advisor.

oops.... two, not too.

Good data to have...

Didn't realize just how much of a pig the C2 turbo style rear wheel is. I wouldn't have guessed the Sport Classics be lighter.

Now I am not sure about the Boxster S II's. I don't want other 968 owners pointing and laughing because they are only 8.5" in the rear. LOL

That's just begging for me to head off topic in a reply....!

It will probably depend on the tire too. There are "wider" tires and there are "narrower" tires that will fit on the same rim. I believe there are charts on the net which give you true width of various tires. Just because your wheel is 1/2" narrower than a standard 968 17" wheel doesn't mean we will notice and taunt you about your "inadequacies!"

Flash, don't let those wheels get too far from your car before we talk. I have a recollection that I thought they were pretty nice.

I would like to put 255's on the back but 8.5 is at the bottom of the recommended sizes for all the tires I would consider.

For Information... My 17" Sport Classics and Tyres ( notice the correct spelling for Tyres ) are as follows :

Front.. 7" - 55 Off-sets on M030 Hubs/Knuckles /Spindles with 225/45 ZR17 Tyres

Rear.. 8.5" -50 Off-sets on Standard .........".....................with 255/40 ZR17 Tyres

I have no spacers and no issues with fit , handling or tramlining. They are time consuming to clean and I use EBC Greens to reduce brake dust .

I purchased them on an exchange deal by trading in some Turbo-twists which looked ugly on the 968.

Cheers Shaun

Those are probably identical in size and spec to the Boxster S II wheels Dire is considering so I would guess they will fit and look fine!

Buy them buy them buy them!

Well bio, I would love to buy them right now but I know I can get a better deal than the $1200 that Wheel Enhancement wants (plus $120 shipping + $160 for 3 color center caps).
