Body work question

As I previously posted my 93 cab got whacked about a week and a half ago. I am in negotiations with insurance companies. I found a body shop I like. They are porsche certified have a down draft booth, a computerized German paint mixing booth, loads of Porsches and other high end cars being repaired.

The Owner is telling me that rather then replace the rear quarter panel which to me looks like toast that he has an old world metal guy that will spend whatever time it takes to bang it out on blocks and make it 100% perfect. He says that to remove the rear quarter panel he would have to cut into the unibody and would compromise the integrity of the body. He is replacing numerous other parts, front fender,front bumper,rear bumper.

Any thoughts?

Others will, I'm sure, offer specific structural comments. From a higher level, though, I have to look at one of the first things you said: "I found a body shop I like." If that's the case, don't second-guess his decisions in areas that are why you like him - and that's his expertise. Have him put your satisfaction as the criteria for acceptance, and then let him do it his way. You can always force the panel to be replaced if his approach doesn't meet the "100% perfect" standard.

Many (good) body shops have told me they try to fix rather than replace panles as the replacements need alot of work to fit right anyway.

I would have him repair the panel.

If he did not think it could be done right (at a savings) he would not bother with it and just replace the panel.



You could also go and check the body work before they paint

Thanks for the input. I will check the work before paint and I am pretty comfortable with the shop as he knows I will accept nothing less then the car being perfect.
