While my car is down because of an electrical connector I broke I thought I would do some other deferred maintenance and I went about flushing the radiator. Now I realize I don't understand something.
If you drain the radiator (using the lower radiator hose) and the thermostat is closed (as it would be) then doesn't the coolant remain in the block behind the thermostat? Of course it's not a perfect seal so it will trickle out but if you just pop the hose back on after the flood then you've left the coolant behind.
And if you drain the block then you're counting on the water pump to start up promptly to refill the block, is this the "vapor lock" we used to hear about.
I've never thought about this before, if I'm being an idiot kindly be nice about saying it. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/huh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
