Any interesting stories behind your forum name?
#21

Rap - yep that is my name. The A is the initial of the middle name. If I knew I could use something more sexy or descriptive, something like Rolling Stone would fit given that I am more round than triangular or vertical. When I worked in South America, my nickname was Gordo and we had another who was Flaco.

Perhaps something like Masochist would also work given the non-D1 Supercharger experience I have been through.

Coming with a cape is one thing, but coming with a trench coat is something else altogether!

I'm going to pass on that one. Jay wants youngsters to be able to read these threads. Course the kids today are so far ahead of where we were back then! Lol

First car I learned to drive on (and had to take driver's license test with) --- '77 Fleetwood Brougham.

Had to be close to 20 feet long..

Were it not for the hood ornament, wouldn't have been able to tell where the front end ended.

Had kick down footrests in the back seat, and a factory am/fm/CB radio!

968Syncro = 968 and Syncro, the Syncro being my other car. A 4WD VW Vanagon called a Syncro, an '89, and yes factory 4WD. The combination of these 2 gives me everything I ever need in vehicles. Rather odd, I've had these 2 for about 6-7 years now. What one can't do, the other can. Ok, I'll stop harping on the Syncro, but when the fires came and we evacuted [neighbor's home right next door total loss] I took the Syncro, figured I could replace the 968. Like I said, it is rather odd, just happy with these 2 since no car can do everything, but somehow this combo meets all the needs.

Ok, so the ho-hum. Showed up at Flash's one day with the Syncro. It can't (yet) pull a trailer with a 968 inside so he wasn't impressed; although Flash just listen --- hey it is German, made rock solid, it is part of the Porsche family, you can sleep inside with your dogs, and can climb lots of mountains, and the available upgrades are much more robust than 968s, much more rare (some go for $60K and more), and it does come with airconditioning, and you can haul parts in it, and you can fit your TR4 inside, you could host the whole Paso Robles gang for a party inside of it, and ...... and..... and ....

My neighbour has the "4 door" Syncro truck. Ha, truck, hahahahahahaha. You should see that baby with a 1/4 cord of wood stacked high. Das Auto.

Dave, it is spelled "Syncro" not Synchro. Please educate us, given your vast experience with these vehicles, what other things you understand about them.

What I am about to post is a side tangent from the topic, BUT I feel that 968Syncro needs my support against the "rude" comments from my local BC 968 friend...

I will "educate" DaveN next time I see him!

"just happy with these 2 since no car can do everything, but somehow this combo meets all the needs."

I think I could be VERY happy with that combo also! My dad owned (3) Kombi's while we lived in Brazil from 1972 - 1982 and I owned (2) between 1993 - 1999 (also in Brazil). These were just AMAZING vehicles. The nickname for the Kombi in Brazil is "a mothers heart = there is always room for one more"!

I have hauled 25 people + around at a time! Hauled MOUNTAINS of goods from the "big" city to the town where we lived. If it needed repairs, the parts were cheap, available everywhere and every mechanic could fix it in a jiff.

Here is a camper version made in Brazil during the 80's and I WANT ONE!!!

EDIT - HEY what happend to the picture I "pasted"???

EDIT - OK I figured it out...

I missed out on one back in 1991. It had only 40,000 Km and I could have bought it for US $10K. Wish I could turn the clock back...

I do search the web once in a while and I WILL drive one back from Brazil some day... (well, at least that is a "bucket list" dream...)

Worked in a big Pharma company for 5 years right out of college. Ran fermentors and things like that. Since then, have worked for two different pharmaceutical equipment manufacturers. My current company makes solid dosage material handling and processing equipment for the pharm, biotech and nutraceutical industries. So, one could say I've been somewhat involved in the Biotech industry from the gitgo - hence my screen name.

Cosimo is my middle name. It was my grandfather's first name. Since I was first born of my generation it is Italian tradtion that he given the grandfathers name. However my parents wanted to be more "American" and settled for it as my middle name. It is also my license plate and a lot of other things. I often use it as my first name as people tend not to forget it. Caio tutti.

No vast experience in these vehicle, obvious by the spelling mistake I just have fun poking my neighbour when he tried to do something real with his very high bed and little box sides. He is an avid VW fan, he has an old Blue van and an older "split window" window van as well. I had a '58 VW bug as my first car so I am familiar with 6V and no heat. Sure miss those 36 Hp.

Not a pistonhead username for me either. I would love to have one but 99% of the time all are taken. My user name is based on the main character of a movie http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nosferatu. I saw the movie for the first time on a theater on a weekend rerun of horror movies a few years ago...ok a number of years ago. If you haven't seen the movie yet I strongly recomend you do.

Monstrous4banger –derived form a crazy 3 night stay in Amsterdam involving Viagra, 2 prostitutes a chimp and goat.

RAP- Derived from his well known impromptu collaborations with Tupac on open mic night. When Tupac past, someone commented, “well, I guess that’s a Rap” and the name stuck.

CraigaWoodman… Hmm Craig.. WOODman too easy..

Hey, It’s a slow Friday and I’m ready to get the weekend started. No offense guys..
