Annual Spring Meet, Dine & Drive - May 6th
#1

The two Bucks County, PA fun runs in April were so incredibly enjoyable that I'm looking for yet another. And I found one in Maryland that looks promising.

There's a fun run this Sunday, May 6th in Rockville, Maryland (suburb of Washington, DC). It's being organized by a member of the Chesapeake Region PCA. The weather forecast, so far, calls for sunshine and blue skies. That's top down/sunroof open/windows down weather, for sure.

Even though it's a bit of a hike, I'm going. If you're interested in joining up for a caravan, let me know. I'll be taking NJ Turnpike/95 to the Washington Beltway (495) unless someone makes a better offer.

You might also consider coming to a 968 (and other P-friends) FunDay in Annapolis on Saturday, May 19! We'll meet at City Dock (have special reserved parking), have lunch, then take a fun run to St. Michaels. Roads may not be as exhilarating as the last Bucks County funrun, but it's sure to be scenic and a great time! We have 8 968's (12 people) so far, would love a few more 968's!

And I liked the Bucks County run so much that I'll gladly come back up for another sometime.

Report on the May 6th Event in Rockville, Maryland:

I went to the event in Rockville yesterday...a pretty long distance to drive from New Jersey for "just a fun run" I thought.

But the weather promised to be perfect, and so it beckoned me. And in fact, the weather was the proverbial top down/sunroof open/windows down weather that we all long for.

One hundred cars showed up, and as I learned while I was there, the first part of the event was more like a car show from 9:30 to 11:00 (I especially drooled over a metallic gray Ferrari 308!). At 11:10, about 45 cars departed for the run. Almost all were Porsches, but there were about 5 Minis and 2 Mercedes.

I had worried that such a large group would be hard to keep together, and that the pace would be slow.

Hah! The pace was fast right out of the gate, and was fast throughout the event. The roads were challenging, much the same as the Bucks County roads were challenging. The scenery was equally beautiful - farms, countryside, woods, estate homes, etc.

In fact, the event was a blast! A great driving experience with very nice people. Was it worth driving so far for "just a fun run" (a ninety minute one, at that). Absolutely!

Oh, by the way....only one 968 showed up!

So, here's what you can do if you missed the event and/or if you'd like to attend the next one. There's going to be another similar event on May 20th, done by the same organizer(s).

It was a pleasure for Gina and I to host the May 6th event... We were glad to see people came from as far away as NJ... We went on a Mother's Day cruise today running the May 20th Civil War Trail - Scenic Maryland Tour route... It's an absolutely incredible tour with lots of beautiful scenery and chocked full of history... The roads are nothing short of spectacular... We ended at the golf club for lunch and sat outside enjoying the scenery... It's an extremely nice place to end a tour... We hope you agree...

In addition to the tour route directions, I'll be providing a detailed history summary on all the Civil War landmarks we blow past...

Thanks again for all of you making May 6th such a successful event... We're looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones on May 20th...

Keep your eyes open for a nice 968 as we are looking for one for the son...
