Alternator connections - help
#1

I'd feel better if I had some confirmation on the correct wiring connections on the back of the alternator. There are two wires. The big one goes to the starter/battery. The smaller gauge one I have heard called the exciter wire. Here's a picture of the back of the Bosch alternator. I believe the big terminal is the starter/battery connection. I believe the terminal adjacent and to the left of the starter/battery connection is the post for the exciter wire. Correct?

By the way, both Auto Zone and Advance Auto Parts alternator testers show a diagram for our alternators that does not match what we actually have. There is a third spade connection terminal called for that just isn't there. Anybody been able to get a test done somewhere?

The connector for the exciter wire is connected to the contact stud immediately below the started cable stud in the picture you posted. This is according to the battery cable installation instructions which Robby sent me. I'll email them to you; the picture of the back of the alternator showing where the connectors go is on page 12.

Your description is correct. Big wire to big bolt = battery/starter, smaller wire, small bolt = exciter. There is no additional connector. I've had my alternator tested with just the two connections. Whatever Autozone / Advance Auto are looking for is incorrect. Doesn't exist.
