Airbox Modification Article & DIY
#1

With all the hype out there about cone filters and such, controlled testing was done to see what worked best and why. When all was said and done, the factory airbox, with a modification and a K&N filter element, worked much better than any cone filter, with more surface area, colder intake temps, and produced an astounding 10.8 hp on the dyno.

Here is the Airbox Modification Article as it appeared in 9 Magazine:

I have completed this modification with K&N filter. I used 4 2" by 1" subwoofer ports found on eBay for under 2 bucks.

Now my questions, are:

Do I leave the snorkel piece un-installed? As shown in DIY photo?

I do not have engine trip piece surrounding air box, it is best to have a shroud or the trim piece for cooler air, or is that trivial?

I just assume keep snorkel in place as designed , and let additional holes enhance airflow.

Thanks again everyone, awesome site.

remove the snorkel and the gasket around it (the snorkel picks up hot air from down by the oil cooler which is 250 degrees)

leave the front trim piece in place to help isolate the intake from engine bay heat
