In the course of removing my speedo to get the usual broken gear replaced, I unnecessarily removed the steering wheel and air bag. Upon reinstallation, the airbag warning light stayed on. Disconnecting the battery did not reset it. Since I reported this earlier, I now want to report that the shop where I occasionally have the car worked on fixed the airbag yesterday. The "hammer" showed no life in the system, so the shop pulled the air bag while I waited. To my utter consternation (putting it mildly), the airbag had become disconnected when I reinstalled it. Since I thought I took great care in this whole process, I am at least astounded. Further to this, the shop removed the airbag and reinstalled it without disconnecting the battery and with the car fresh off the road. I sure as hell wouldn't do that. This is one more candidate story for Rock Auto's stupid car repair tricks. I'm accumulating these more quickly as I age.
