The other morning I went to start up my 94 cab. As soon as the engine turned over I heard this terrible rattling at idle that sounded like something was about to fall off. With increasing rpms it seemed to go away but it was bad enough that I was afraid of driving the car in the fears of it affecting a belt.
Upon further inspection it turned out that the lower mounting nub on the bottom of the AC compressor had cracked and the AC was only attached by one bolt now. I have no idea how it might have happened since I hadn't hit any large potholes or curbs as long as I have owned the car (2 years).
The car is a weekend toy for me and only gets driven if I can have the roof down. A new AC compressor is 6-800 installed. I have had a need for the AC twice I think in the time that I have owned the car. At this point I have no desire to pay for a new compressor that won't get used.
I was searching Paragons site and noticed their AC delete kit:

Does anyone have any experience with this? It seems like the perfect solution to my problem, however it is for a 944 and i'm not sure if the 968 is too different.
I am looking forward to losing about 70 pounds though if this ends up working.
Thoughts?

So maybe I was a little optimistic with the 70 lbs, but even so it will let me eat that many more cheeseburgers before driving the car and it will still feel the same.
As for the A/C in the summer, well in the three summers that I have owned the car I have used the A/C about 4 or 5 times other then when I turn it on just to use the system every few days.
My personal rule for the car is that I don't drive it unless I can have the roof down. The boring cars are much more comfortable in the nasty weather what with having real roofs and all.
I think I am going to go ahead with the delete and see what happens. I may be interested in that bracked if it comes with the belt....
