968 vs 944 exterior door handle
#1

The drivers side door handle on our Yellow 968 Firehawk is broken. It is one of the inside parts that are rivited on.

It is my understanding that there are significant similarities between the 944 and 968 door handles guts, though they are significantly different from the outside. My question is has anybody purchased as cheap 944 door handle to fix the guts of thier 968 handle? Any thoughts on if this is a workable option?

As it is the inside handle works fine, but every time I go to get in the car it is just annoying. I am also concerned if there were a racing incident, I wouldn't want the track workers having any delay in getting the door open. I don't want to spend what the going price seems to be, but I do need to get it done.

Any experience would be appreciated.

I used a 944 handle as a temporary fix for my car...no problems at all.

I think the question is, can he keep the 968 look, but fix the mechanics with 944 parts

The early 944 handles were extremely similar to VW handles. They basically were VW handles, with the deck shaved down a little bit.

The later 944 handles changed greatly and have a different mechanism, and the 968 handles again have a different mechanism. I don't have any first hand experience with the 968 handles. I know that when 944 guys want to install the 968 handles, there is some modification necessary to the linkages, so from that I would assume that the parts are not directly interchangeable but are compatible. HTH.
