Flash: however you want to set it up is fine by me

More info: So looks like since I just got a new job, I can increase my budget. Spoke with Chris White of 944enhancement. I am strongly considering Darton sleeves because then my piston-ring choice becomes very easy. Wossner, JE, etc...And I don;t just have to go with the 104.5mm bore and worry about raising boost levels.

Build updates:

Turbo... Finally found a .82 A/R T3 housing for a stage 3 turbine wheel. Cost 180$. Turbo total build was about 800$ which includes 60lb compressor TO4e and T3 .82 stage three turbine side. SHould easily supply volume for 400+ hp AND not restrict the turbine side at higher rpms. Tradeoff is of course slight increase in 'on boost' rpm to about 3800-4000. Watching my shift points with the NA shows that I like to shift in this range. pic shows new hot side housing, compare it to old pics for size. I think that my old housing was really a 48 size but not shure. see pics.

Wastegate: see pic. 38mm

blow off valve: see pics very well made for a price of 40$. comes with the 2.5 machined cast mount pipe.

In the above post, bottom pic is of torque tube sleeves made from aluminum and new bearings. Plated ring gear and flywheel 'S2" with 60-2 tooth pattern for Haltech. Heat treated to combat embrittlement twice before plating. Oil limiter with 1.8mm hole for turbo inlet.

Here is the new BOV. again, very well made..only concern is the spring quality and how long it will last. the housing and machining are excellent.

Comparison of old ?48 housing (top) with 82 housing(bottom pic): the cone is much smaller on the one with the gasket/5 bolt. also, 4 bolt pattern fits the 951 flange well.

Wastegate: very well made:

Watching xrad's turbo conversion unfold leaves me in jaw-dropping awe. To the outside observer, it looks like something Willie Wonka conjured up from the fanciful depths of his wildest imagination. And I'm impressed with myself when I get my timing belt tension right... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Thnaks guys, love the feedback! Kunz, your project looks great , too!!

Project kind of on hold while I move to Ohio (Canton area). I won;t be tearing down the engine anytime soon. Maybe if I can find another 3.0 Block or engine and start on that one....

Plan is to build a 4+ bay garage/shop with Bend Pak pro lift, compressor connections, work benches, head/shower, heat and AC and room for all my tools(and the lounge section upstairs for late night poker)......all dreams right now...wife wants the house built first...not really sure where her priorities lie.....

Any of you out in the Canton Ohio direction, feel free to pm me.

Awesome, X! This is the best thread on the forum or ANY forum for that matter. Keep on rockin' bro!!! I can't wait to see (and hear!) the finished product!

BTW, are you anywhere near Rootstown? Got fam/friends there so a drive-by could be in order on our next U.S. visit.

THANKS! Lonestar. I will be just east of Alliance and north of Canton...yes, near Rootstown, i think...

Hey, you ever hear of Honey Grove Texas(north east of Plano)...spent some time out there a few years back....

I really like what Chris White of 944enhancement had to say(Darton sleeve builder..will do the whole short block). He has been quick to respond to my emails. Anyone deal with him or his services??

UPDATE: I have been away for quite some time. Unfortunately, the Porsche rebuild is on hold for the moment. Before I was on this site, I spent much time on Alfagtv6 and I missed the sound of Italian engines (and their problems) sooo much, i bought another Alfa to rebuild. And...I was working on an engine for a 30's touring car build and that project has been very time consuming (it is based on inline 6 jag engine). Much work has gone into that engine and the Alfa at the price of Porsche time.

Turbo will proceed, but not until I have the Alfa in shape and the Jag engine finished.

My apolgies to the readers for delay in pm replies and delay in the Porsche build.

Cheers , Xrad

Pics: First pic is for all you turbo heads out there! not my jag engine, but mine looks exactly like it...just not put together yet. Other pic is alfa engine build in progress.

WOW, THANKS guys! It is nice to be appreciated and missed. I just brought the 968 out of storage today...wash and wax. Now I remember what it feels like to drive her again. Everything works perfectly. I forgot how much work I had done on the car in 1.5 years.

As far as the turbo build. I have come to the conclusion that Darton sleeves will be the best move. I can ship the engine to 944enhancement and they can do the work. But this will not happen for a while because of the other projects.

Cheers, X
