Oil Pressure
#1

Never really noticed before... at least not on a compaison level... When I crank 'er up in the morning, the idle-speed oil pressure is near 5 bars, but give it a couple miles down the road at a stop light, and it's down to about 2. Normal?

Yep, perfectly normal. If it gets too low, there is an idiot light. There is also an oil pressure sender that may be failing as was the case on my 944. Once warm, the pressure would get low enough to flicker the light on and off but never affected the engine idle or running condition. New sender fixed that right up and it's only about 30 bucks.

J.C.
Mine runs almost exactly the same as what you describe.
I can give you another data point on the oil pressure sender, since I had mine replaced recently and the oil pressure readings did not change at all.

I wish it only cost me $30.
Daryl, where are you getting your parts?
Try $240 installed at the dealer
Of course, then I found RS Barn, and life was good again.

Jamie, I stand corrected...I just looked at my 944 maintenance records and the oil pressure sender was $43.17 I most likely ordered it from one of two different online German parts suppliers I use...most parts are not Porsche brand, but remember, Porsche didn't make hardly anything. It's all Bosch, Mahle, Standt, etc. I've been able to source stuff for my neighbors BMW and my Benz for mere fractions of dealer costs. Don't forget, that's how the dealer makes the bulk of their money servicing older cars...by marking up the parts!

$43.17 is still great.

List price is $134, and they gave me a deal at $126 (+ $119 for an hour of labor).

And the best part was that it didn't even need to be replaced.

Can you tell me what your parts supplier web sites are?

pelican should have it too - they usually have everything, and at competitive and sometimes even lower prices - i don't always find everything there, but i've found quite a few things there for less than at sunset

for example, the oil pressure sender is $33.00

Mine behaves exactly the same. In fact, on a really blistering Texas day, after running it a good 20+ minutes, mine goes from how yours does after driving for a few miles, to the range of maybe 1.6.

Good stuff. Thanks guys! That's one thing on the list I don't have to fix. Now about those other 37 things.....
