968 Exhaust Poll
#1

This is a follow up to my post under Technical - thinking it might be better placed here...the list is from what I could find that people have checked into / are using. And thanks again to all for the exhaust info here - now that I'm needing a new one it's been VERY helpful!

To be honest I didn't know it would MAKE you answer all of them to vote! I might have come up with something more interesting then...like:

Black

Jet Black

Dark Shade of Black

Very Black

Other (As long as it's Black)

My favorite color for my 968 is Polar Silver and for a better sounding exhaust which weighs 30 poounds less I had the rear muffler cut off and two straight pipes extended to the rear with chrome tips welded on. sounds great and was not expensive. Bob Blackwell.

I did consider black when I got my 968 until I found out that the Iris Blue were the fastest of the entire production line ( what ?! everybody knows that ), so clearly I went for performance instead of color preference

A little known tidbit:

Iris Blue and Black 968's, from 92 thru 95, were built using all the out-of-tolerance components thrown in the "waste" bins, Porsche still had quotas afterall!

It is very well known, however, that Aventurine Green 968's from 95 displayed the most HP & torque right off the assembly line. Further, the factory installed M030 option added about 72.3HP @ 8000RPM, as well as all the suspension and brake goodies.... I can't believe you guys don't know this stuff!

Sheesh! Do a little research before you all post up nonsense!!!!!

Hmmm...isn't that last post from someone considering changing the color of his 968?

I second that my Aventurine Green coupe is definitely the fastest of all 968s. I "read" the same research.

I had to add the M030 sway bars after the fact but noticed at least 72 HP gain. Will have to see where the 0.3 went.

Very true, but once I learned the truth about the rare "Aventurine Green Horsepower Increasing Paint" option, I decided to not change....

Has nothing to do with the multiple thousands of dollars required to truly change the color....

To the OP- sorry for the Hijack!

Some motorsport historians might tell you that "silver" is the fastest.

I think it was Autounion in the 30's that made silver the national color of german race cars, by not painting them. They were au natural or "silver"

Hence wieght savings for lack of paint.

Smokiemon...you beat me to it, but that's exactly what I was going to say...each country has it's own "national color" and indeed the German color is Silver. Italy is Red (Ferrari), Britian is Green (British Racing Green) and I forget most of the others...Google time...oops, now I have to go back and fill out the poll

The silver "au natural" look was also adopted by American Airlines as part of its program to save fuel. You'd be amazed at what the paint weighs on a jetliner (but please don't ask, as I don't remember).

and decals add 27.31 HP

and, Bob Blackwell is a Scholar and a Gentleman, so I would take his opinion over others.

Rutger - thanks for the link - have been to that site before but as they say there it's NEW - didn't know they had one...

I'll add them and the link to the Exhaust "summary" under technical.

(And for all you other color choosers....it's clear that BLACK is running away with this thing!)

Oh - and if you're curious about the plane paint - check out:

Or, they could simply take a brillo pad ( the old wire version, not the plastic ones ) and brush the h*ll out of that aircraft ... of course there would be royalties to pay to the DeLorean's estate

Ok, and now this is waaay OT, unless any of you is considering the brillo pad application for the 968 to make the car lighter Bob... Bob... put the pad down, easy.. easy...that's it...

Brian - did you get the link I sent to your little 968?

And for the two of you who have selected "Other" - fess up - what does that mean? Totally custom by you / your local exhaust experts? If it's some other place / resource I would like to add it to my general after market exhaust summary...
