So I test drove the " cheap, entry level " Ferrari Portofino . ( " only " $ 215 ,000... + tax ) Not because I'm considering buying one, lol .. went there with my friend who is making a habit out of buying Ferraris and Astons nowadays ..

Not sure where to start . It rides as comfortably as a Lexus sedan , yet with perfect road feedback , handles magnificently . Great ergonomics, excellent visibility , plenty technology. And now this ( to stay on the HP theme ). : a twin turbo 4 l V8 , producing just about 600 HP, but even more impressive is the 580 ft/lbs of torque . NO turbo lag whatsoever, although I think most twin turbos eliminate the single turbo lag . Acceleration feels as insane as the top end Tesla , but of course it's accompanied by a wonderful exhaust note , albeit a little muffled for a Ferrari , and that high revving engine. The slight downside for me is still the turbo factor and that's not just in the Ferrari but in any car ; no matter how fast it makes the car, there's just something I can't describe which lacks, when compared to a N.A. engine ..a powerful one that is . Eh, it's just me . Turbo is the future, just about every sports car and many other manufacturers alike are producing their new generation cars with turbos, and on smaller capacity engines . Exhaust sound will suffer . Look what happened to F1 cars , a muffled pathetic sound compared to the prevous NA engines.

0-186 mph in 12 seconds ?! Oof. You'll probably have less than 10 % of the e-battery charge left after just one of those runs, lol, but in fairness, I read that with a first generation Veyron , if you drive the car at its max speed of 250 mph, you'll consume its entire tank of gas in about 15 minutes ..

Speaking of that, did you guys see the Top Gear and now viral video of a Bugatti drag racing a jet fighter   ?    I'll see if I can find it and post it, but fun stuff..,   Bugatti gets the jump of course, and pulls ahead for maybe seven or so seconds, and then it looks like Richard Hammond suddenly puts the car in reverse and speeds backwards   Tongue

pinanfarina continues to come up with incredibly attractive cars.  while i think that one above is a bit garish for my tastes, and smacks a bit too much of the i8, there is no denying the beauty of the curves.  that is something that i think a lot of designers miss.  the tendency to have hard creases and edges, rather than smooth transitions and curves, is what keeps me from buying a lot of the cars out there.

The problem with this particular one though is that the nose looks like every other McLaren, Tesla Roadster, NSX, and another one or two other compact super-cars out there.   Not that it's a bad company to be in, but the dips and scoops and exaggerated features ( functional as they may be..) are over the top for me..

agreed.  that is why i said it was garish.  i have the same problem with those goofy looking wing things on the back of the i8.

That's my gripe with the Ferrari 458/488 as well - I don't like the way crease along the top of the door dips down at the back of the door, and then another crease starting at the front of the rear fender rises starting at the same spot, creating a "pinched" look where the two creases intersect at the back of the door.  The Lotus Evora has a similar look, and I don't like it on that car, either.  My probable all time favorite, the Ferrari 246 Dino, also has a swoopy, curvy rear fender treatment, but avoids the "pinched" look.

Yup, all these exaggerated features combined with angular overkill is a plague ;-) :-) . But I guess enough people like it enough to buy them ( the more money than brains adage never fails to come true ) so who are we to judge ? Oh, right , we're 968 owners, which m and people with good taste , so judge away , it's our right !! ;-)
