2008 Season Video
#1

Here is a music video of my 2008 racing season. Now that it is cold and snowy I needed something to remind me of mixing it up with the Bimmers. The outside shots are courtesy Renalicious.

Nice video Eric, looks like racing is a blast! I can't wait now!

What happened to the guy at the end, did his engine blow or did a wheel lock up?

I hope your car was alright, it looked like you were ok which is what counts

Really enjoyed - almost to the end. OUCH!!! What's the saying - "all good things..." If this was at the end of the season, though, I guess it was the best time.

The guy at the end massively blew his engine and then hid behind an oil slick and a cloud. The car was put back together and ran a 12 hour endurance race a month later. See http://www.968forums.com/index.php?showtopic=6586

Hey Eric - nice video! Makes a man want to race!

I checked out your build website also and picked up some great ideas for my ITR 968 project.

What club were you racing with? I couldn't tell if that was SCCA or NASA - with the American iron out there I figure it's not PCA.

Cheers,

Ben

Pablo - are we going to see you back out there?

Neither. I race mostly with ICSCC (aka Conference), a regional sanctioning body. NASA is not in the NW and I occasionally race with SCCA but they don't have much going outside of Portland. Conference has very healthy grids with a season championship run on tracks in WA, OR & BC. If ITR had existed 5 years ago I probably would have gone that way with my car, but there are very few ITR cars around here.

So do you think this year was more or less eventful than previous years?

They are all memorable. However this year eventhough I went to less events, many of them had "challenges" - from broken suspensions to Ford blockades and lots of e36s. Not everything gets caught on camera.

Great video as always Eric. Best of luck for 2009!

P.S. I'm hoping that you won't be needing any more bumper covers in the future

How does the E 36s compare to the 968 on the track? Is the Porsche horse power defecit a problem? They should be running a bit over 300 hp with small modifications?

From what I've seen, Eric can keep up with the M3 pretty well considering it's additional power. Whether it's because he's so in tune with the 968 and knows how to throw it around the track or because he has a better setup, but I would say that those cars are pretty well matched in this case. I know that if Eric did up that engine with cams, chips, etc, it would probably end up besting the M3 (And a lot of the V8s running the same class).

There are a lot of flavors of e36 and the 968 runs pretty well with most of them, eventhough some have a lot more power. In the video the black/yellow car is high output World Challenge 2.5 liter, the black with red wheels was a 3 liter with ~240 whp, the yellow with black wing and the grey one are 3.2s w/ ~260 whp and the yellow with yellow wing is a euro spec 3.2 which puts out even more. My 200 whp keeps up but it makes it a big challenge.

I hope to have something for them next year.....

Holy crap - is that your turbo motor under development?

I have a scheme where I do some SCCA rules lawyering and request that the 968 Turbo S be added to STU which is the new national class for SCCA. (STO is for retired World Challenge GT cars, STU is for WC Touring cars.)

I'll need to make the case that the Turbo S was a car sold in the US.... but that's a reach which will require the lawyerin'.

Ooh nice! I've heard you talking about that engine, but this is the first time seeing it 2.7L? Or 2.5?

Can't wait to see it in action, although it will be sad to see the 3L go. Any plans on using it as a backup engine? Just in case type of thing

It is a 2.5 with the Vitesse StgIII setup. It should easily add 100hp to what I currently have and that is being conservative. I'm keeping the 3.0 for future upgrades or to go back to if it all goes wrong.
