At the conclusion of the Rocky Mountain Concours this past weekend, at the Broadmoor, a speed yellow Carrera GT, which earlier had been much admired, was ruined on its way to its trailer. This happened just off the concours ground itself. A couple of photos of the carnage are attached, but they don't show the right side of the car, which was completely destroyed. Apparently, the driver, on a wet road (it rained just after the event finished) lost the back end, did a complete 360, jumped a curb, went through a fence, bushes, and finally stopped a short distance from where he hit a tree. Folks I talked to said it was a "kid" driving the car, supposedly the son of the owner. Not sure if that's accurate or not - I find it hard to believe that a "kid" would be allowed to drive a car like this. However, I did see the owner of this car as he drove his GT-1 prototype (one of two) onto the grounds earlier in the day.

A friend of a friend picked up some of the fender bits as souvenirs. The car is currently sitting at Porsche of Colorado Springs awaiting its fate.

I love the sound of that engine revving. I wonder if I could somehow shoe horn it into my car.

This just in...apparently the driver was a 19 year old son of a friend of the owner. Estimated to be travelling 100mph just a couple of blocks outside the exit from the concours grounds. Apparently, alcohol may have been involved. This happened on a sweeping right-hander just before a roundabout. Amazingly, no one was hurt.

Who lets a 19 yr old drive a $400K car? And it wasn't even HIS SON! That kind of temptation coupled with immaturity and stupidity is an accident waiting to happen.

I love my 968 for what it is & don't hate it for what it isn't!

[quote name='smokiemon968' post='40839' date='Sep 5 2007, 07:08 PM']Have heard about Hulk Hogans son? 800hp supra wrapped around a tree. His friend layed up in the hospital with brain damage.

IIRC, Hulk Hogan's sun is a professional racing driver though. . .

Apparently that professional driver stuff was all just for show. One of the instructors came out and said it was just put on for the hogan show.
