wing or a prayer?
#1

9 years ago, when i first met eric sandoval, he had a cab the same color as mine, with the tech art rear spoiler on it. i wasn't sold on it then, so i didn't get one.

as the years went on, i still wasn't sold on it, and passed up one opportunity after another to get one. availability became more rare though, and when 968gene put his up for sale (i passed on it when he bought it) i figured i should grab it and see if i liked it or not.

it was primered when i got it, and i STILL wasn't sold on it. thinking that perhaps i just needed to see it in body color, i had it painted.

i am still on the fence. so, i am putting up a poll to see what others think, as i ponder this further. yes, i know the boot cover is not on. the car is a mess, as i still have not cleaned it up after being in the shop for 3 months. the wing is just clipped on so i can see if i like it or not too.

i am putting up shots (rear, 3/4, side) both top up and top down, both with and without the spoiler

like it, or not?

lol - no apologies needed. i'm on the fence myself. every other time i look at it i flip flop. that is exactly why it is only clipped on, and not really attached. i may just sell it, or i may stick it in the attic. no idea yet.

Man, I see what you mean. I like the way it looks from the side and straight back, it's the 3/4 that seems wonky...

I dont mind it with top down, probably looks good with your front splitter, evens things out front to rear.

Without your front splitter, i would say no.

the functional part of me say "cool, something to grab onto to open and close the trunk, and breaking up the wind at the rear will give me more stability, higher top speed, and better fuel economy".

the aesthetically tuned part of me is just not sure. i'm trying to live with it for a while, walk around it, and let my head get wrapped around the idea. so far, no dice though. i had done a lot to make the back end of the car look wider than stock. removing the 3rd brake light, the emblems, adding the key plug, and putting those big tires back there did a lot for that. i'm just not sure i want to mess that up.

Not crazy about it. Then again I'm not a big fan of the splitter look on our cars either.

Alena votes for it however. She said from the side view it's a toss-up, but the rear view photos make a good case for it. Aw, what the hell does she know anyway, she's womanfolk , lol.

It's a tossup for me. But without seeing the whole car I can't decide. I have to see it the context of the whole package.

Tough one. How many other cabs have you seen it on? I think it would grow on me. Course I have one on the back of my coupe so I'm partial. I say go for it. Your not getting any younger, it's different, it's not the end of the world of you grow to dislike it. Perhaps a whale tail. Something more bold!

I love the lines of my Cab. The spoiler looks like what it is, an afterthought add-on. Joe Bob says two big thumbs down.

Wow, I seem to be in the minority. I love it. Saw it in person on Bandit's Car, and solidified it more for me. It's agressive, especially from the rear (giggity), and from all angles it's the period (not an exclamation point, like ricer spoilers) at the end of the 968 statement. without it, the rear looks more like a comma.... If you get what I mean.

And for the woman's vote, Lisa says, "I like it from the rear (again, giggity), but the side view looks like it was just plopped on there." A vote for the "afterthought" camp.

So, if you sell it, I'll be interested!

Well, given flash's car after the latest work up, most people are probably only going to see that wing from the rear anyway, so the side view is probably not a consideration here :-) :-)

I'm not a huge fan of the look, it looks as if it were tacked on as an afterthought, however, you point out that there are some performance improvements to be had. When I first considered installing the splitter I was afraid the car was going look more like the rice rockets you see around the Bay area here will all cheap fiberglass aero kits that are installed on them. But the splitter is an elegant addition and so markedly improved the handling that I would have installed even if made the front end look butt ugly, just for the performance gain.

About 18mnths ago, I put a "turbo" type spoiler on my coupe. I still can't decide whether I really like it or not.

The lip spoiler on the cab has me in the same predicament, from some angles it looks great, but from others not so much.

Perhaps this is another opportunity for a custom D1R product, to get the look exactly right?

not that Flash doesn't have enough to do already!

I didn't want to reveal this already, but to save duplicate effort I guess it's time. I've already developed a new spoiler and ground effects kit, shown here. It was rough at first, but as you can tell from the photos, it's ready for prime time. The image shows the final product in my exclusive "Southern Yellow Pine" finish, with genuine exposed deck screws. You won't find that anywhere else.

I'm also working on a line of accessories for kids. The market is completely underserved.

it's funny how even the slightest angular change affects the way it looks. if you drop down lower in point of view, it looks better.

still not sold on it though.
