Window motor removal
#1

My drivers window has stopped working. The switch is working fine and I get 14 volts at the plug that attaches to the motor. The motor does not hum or get hot. With the ignition switch on but not the engine, the dome light dims a little bit when hitting the window switch so some current seems to be flowing. The motor has continuity within it(12.5 ohms). I suspect it must be the motor but I am unable to extract it. I have the unit unbolted from the door and the window glass propped up. I am unable to separate the motor from the regualtor and I cannot remove them together. Can anyone guide me as to what I need to do next? Any help would be very much apprecitated.

Thgank you,

If you need any parts I've got the from gutting my car for racing.

It was a bit of a puzzle pulling the motor out but you can make if fit.

Cheers,

Ben,
When you say it is a bit of a puzzle do you mean extracting the whole assembly with the motor attached? How many bolts hold the motor to the regulator? I was able to reach around and take out two of them. The motor is looser but I am still not able to separate the two. Should the motor easily separate from the regulator is it is unbolted? I believe I will need a motor so I will likely be interested in one.
Thank you for responding,
Dwight

I replaced the motor in my driver's window, put it together and when testing the window a plastic roller broke. I found that Porsche does not sell the rollers but only the whole regulator for over $200. Clark's Corvair parts sells the rollers individually for $5. It is a close match. So I ground off the peened end of the old roller, punched the roller out, drilled a 25/64 hole in the regulator and bolted in the roller using a 1/4-20 nut and Loctite red. The adaption has worked perfectly. The part number is c2694. Maybe someone else might find this helpful.

Kudos! Excellent fix and way to save about $195!!!!

I've removed and replaced two window motors in the past- one on a colleague's 944, and another on my past 944S2. I didn't like doing it then so I am sure I wouldn't want to do it again!

Hi Dwight,

Did you ever get your window working? What was the cause of the problem?

My passenger side window just stopped working tonight. Haven't had chance to troubleshoot yet.

There seems to be only 1 fuse and 1 relay for both power windows. Can the relay cause only one window to fail. I cannot close the window from either switch.

How hard was the motor to replace? Any tricks you can share?

Thanks

John

I traced the circuit, motor works and power to the switch, the switch is good ( tested with another ) that is as far as i got . I think it's a broken connector or wire. more time needed on it.

That's funny. I had a speaker problem in that door I was ignoring. But will now probably address that at same time. I will probably take a crack at it tonight if I get time. I wish the window was rolled up when it broke. But it's all the way down now. A wiring problem seems like a bear to trace. I hope mine is just a motor. Let me know how yours turns out.

So that's kind of weird. I took off complete door panel. Checked the switch with Ohm meter, checked out OK.

Just put the switch back on to try it and it worked again. Now I can't get it to fail. I'd hate to put it all back together and have it fail tomorrow.

I guess I'll just clean all the contacts, check wiring and grounds and hope for the best.

At least the motor is OK.
