#1

968 Newbie here, sorting out a new to me 1995. I have a rear parking light out, how does one get the taillight assembly out? Remove bumper skin?

Nah, if you just need to replace a bulb, im sure that can be done from the inside without removing the lens

to remove the lens, pretty sure theres some screws on the back inside the trunk, poke around a bit, with a flashlight.

But Im sure never had to remove the bumper cover to remove a tail light assembly.

Have a look behind the carpet on the rear panel. Mine has a rubber bung behind the taillight unit which comes out to reveal a nut/bolt/screw (it's a long time since I had it out and I think it might be slightly different depending on the year). Remove that and you can remove the taillight from the rear of the car.

Thanks, I found it. I thought the rubber cover was electrical so I looked right past it. All good now,

While you are at it, now is the time to shim the light so it sits square in the body. Most tend to droop over time.

It must have been hard to exhibit such restraint! One of the shortcomings of this forum is its often lengthy and pointed technical dialogs.

I appreciate that you took the discussion in hand and resisted the temptation to do a blow-by-blow analysis of the taillight issues of the 968.

Indeed. ;-) :-) . Although replacing those bulbs is a part of my vast mechanical aptitude repertoire, alongside changing the battery, and a fuse or two, the DME relay ( I'm an expert at that now, since I've performed the task several times over the years ) , replacing wiper blades, and ...hold on to your hats folks because here come the mega DYI jobs I've successfully tackled : replacing the distributor cap , installing the top strut towers brace, and replacing the starter, all on my own ! Admittedly , on the starter job Flash was on the phone walking me through, step by step . Impressed now ?! And I can probably even provide instructions for most of those jobs, too ! :-) :-)
