That would be awesome. I don't think i've ever seen a wimbledon 968 in the flesh (not that i remember anyway). How many of those Cabs have a manual transmission, and what color interiors do the manuals have?

Of the Wimbledon coupes interior, all 9 had partial leather:

2 Black

1 Classic gray

1 Black/Light gray

5 Black/Cashmere

7 6spds, 2 Tips, all 1993s, 2 M030 cars (one was a Motorweek compare test car for 1993)

Wimbledon cabs, all 12 had partial leather and V9 black tops:

8 Black

1 Classic gray

3 Black/Cashmere

7 6spds, 5 Tips, 10 1993s, 2 1994s

They pop up.

Attached are a few shots of my Wimbledon green cab. I can't think of anything else that I own that is green, but when I saw this color on another 968 - I fell in love w/ it - it became the main reason I bought the car in the first place. I looked on/off for about 8 yrs before I found one. As Jeff notes above - there are 7 6sp cabs, but I like to think it's the only Wimbldon Green Cab in the world w/ the D1R SC.

yeah, excellent color on the 968, the pictures are great, love my silver 968 (since they are the fastest), but would take that green any day, maybe even the slate grey like in the other "how many" thread.

Re: "Love my silver 968, since they are the fastest"

We need to put this to rest right now - I contacted both the R&D dept at Weissach as well as the production dept at Zuffenhausen. They have long know that due to the particular resin and xylene that is unique to the Wimbledon Green paint, it has always been the front runner in all of their wind tunnel tests. They said the most telling of their aerodynamic tests pertaining to paint colors, would be that of the "skin friction" - also know as "parasitic drag" as seen in the coefficient below along w/ the drag equation. (Since all of the 968 cabs should theoretically have the same shape) It is the paint that then separates the results. Since Porsche as you know "Just ask Jeff and Flash" are extremely reluctant to give up any of their production information - You will all just have to take my word for it - Wimbledon Green is the fastest!

The skin friction coefficient, C[sub]f[/sub], is defined by:

Hi Pauli,

Really LOL! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Thanks.

Now I will relent, you are correct.

Here is proof from the Green Car Congress entitled: "Predictive Model for Near Surface Turbulence Could Lead to Improved Engineering for Lower Fuel Consumption"

Green cars have lower drag <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> This article strongly suggests that green cars have higher performance.

As we know, lower fuel consumption can be achieve via lower drag, and we know lower drag can be directly correlated to higher speed, and green cars have lower drag. Therefore green cars have higher performance.

But we should also question the green-ness of Wimbledon Green. It looks green, the paint code sticker says it is green, and there is no evidence in conflict of it's green-ness. Since all the evidence and testimony suggests that Wimbledon Green is in fact "green", I don't think we have to test or debate if Wimbledon Green is in fact a green color.

Further evidence can be presented through understanding the paint finish. Since Wimbledon green cars have no clear coat layer on the paint, yet Polar Silver cars do, we could perhaps infer some difference in drag from this characteristic. The clear coat is a very hard surface, which may not present an efficient challenge to waxing. Since waxing accomplishes both a filling of low spots in the surface, and also a shaving effect of the surface itself. Waxing is much easier, and also provides significant benefit when considered from the perspective of drag reduction, on a car without a clear coat. This evidence suggest a much lower drag and therefore higher performance for a Wimbledon Green car. Because Wimbledon Green cars benefit more from waxing, they will have higher performance.

That's it, it is final, Green Cars are faster, especially Wimbledon Green.

Additional study is needed: Further research may reveal that "surface turbulent effects" in fact provide lower drag and therefore favor a slightly choppy paint surface providing additional support for the higher performance of the Polar Silver 968.

I don't believe green is actually faster than Midnight Blue though.

Every one knows that when the sun impinges on dark blue paint the molecules of the paint heat up. In doing so they expand and rise ever so slightly above the base metal creating a nano-bump. These millions of bumps act like the dimples on a golf ball to reduce the drag of the car at any give speed. Less drag means greater efficiency as indicated by the lower fuel consumption and higher top speeds.

Unfortunately this doesn't work with black cars, all the paint molecules have been shown to rise equidistant and therefore negating any gains. In fact, some black cars swell so much as to produce the QBE (Quantum Beluga Effect) whereby the overall shape swells to such an extent as to create more drag.

You just can't argue with sound science. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I think you are right about Midnight Blue cars being the fastest. All the quickest 968's seem to be Midnight Blue....ref. Fox944's or Flash's as examples. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Sheesh! I sometimes wonder how you guys survive being so misinformed....

One thing for sure, silver is the fastest driving west in the morning and east in the afternoon. Why? Because silver is the most reflective, and the photons coming from the sun simply bounce off of the rear pushing the car along.

And certainly black interiors are the poorest performers. Why? Because it absorbs more sunlight than lighter colors, converting it into heat, thus requiring more output from the AC and creating more drag on the engine.
