Wow that is one pretty sharp looking car. Get a chance to drive it much yet?

Thanks. I have driven it about 350 miles mostly on the highway. Now the roads are too dirty with recent snow and sand/salt to drive it. It's been great especially as you approach higher speeds. It is not as much fun around town especially with the low front lip spoiler. The color is still a bit strange looking to me, sometimes it looks teal, sometimes dark green, sometimes blueish -- dependent upon the light.

Some interesting things:

It was European delivery and spent most of its life (to 33k miles) in Tennesee.

Options were: Limited slip diff (220). Hi-Fi sound. CD changer. Partial leather. 968 model delete (was put back on)

Now has m030 sway bars (the rear one is in the middle setting), front strut brace, 18 inch 3 piece "look" wheels, Kumho ASX tires 265/35R18 and 225/40R18, club sport oem wheel, front lip spoiler in body color and an aftermarket stainless exhaust (x105 Xlerator and ST45 tip), Raptor shift light, fire extinguisher under pass seat, new stereo. It has neg camber. I'd like to get it stringed or aligned to see the numbers. I have the original wheels and all other parts too.

Was a local concours winner.

Car was checked by an independent porsche shop and had all records. Timing and balance belts have been done at 33k and retensioned. Compression and leak down were perfect all 4 cylinders at 170, leak down 2%. Pinion bearing ok. Variocam ok. Transaxle oil changed with Redline at 38k. Oil every 3k Mobil 1 5W-50. Brake fluid new. All seals goods. Oil pressure is always high.

I wanted to drive the car a lot on the highway -- that's why I bought it and thought it would be a fun car. Now I look at it, and think it is too nice to drive too often so I guess I'll see what happens. It will would probably be too slow on a bigger race track with long straights, but Lime Rock near me is small so I may try it there.

The previous owner was on this forum so you probably have seen it before also.

Thanks for the well wishes.

My first few months impressions are that as a street car, driving the car on an uncrowded highway or around corners is a blast and will really cheer you up fast! It also a jewel to look at and is put together well. The fun-to-price ratio is just great too.

The only other cool cars I've ever driven (not mine) in comparison are a 993 C2, 2006 997 C2S, Boxster S, a 964, 944 S, an F430 spider, a 1978 308, a 1995 SL600, a new Corvette C2, a new M3, an E36 M3, an E46 M3, 1976 BMW 2002, new Lotus Elise, and a 1986 Jaguar XJS cab. And my daily driver a 2002 BMW 330ci with coil overs etc. So not an expert, but this 968 is really fun and pretty and it makes a lot more sense financially than most else etc, and there is just something about the sum of the parts and the old school, hand-assembled German feel of it. I'm hooked. The new M3 in comparison, was ugly #1, heavy #2, and not made as well as the older BMW's -- all for a high price. Why bother... The base 997 doesn't have quite the old school Porsche "special" feeling anymore either.

Only downside, people still look down their noses at 944's and 968's -- but they probably haven't driven them. I loved the 944 too. I think I'd buy a 993 that had the secondary air injection fixed next -- but I'd keep the 968. Seems like that era was Porsche's sweet spot.

Jeff that would be great. I'm driving now despite the sand still on road in some places so any Saturday if you want to come by I should only be about 10 minutes away or so. I watch the three kids on Saturdays and go frostbite sailing on Sundays through May. The sailing gear fits in the 968 rear hatch; I love that. Send me an email to dannylent@Yahoo.com. Thanks again for all the info on the car!

That was the second owner's garage floor in Tennessee. He was a detailing guy and looked like he had a pretty wild garage. You can find those garage tiles on line at Garage Tek.

Nice floor for sure, and equally impressive painted (and trimmed) sheetrock, desk area, lighting, posters,... I've worked in *offices* that were a lot worse than that. [Image: blink.gif]
