I am really really just so frustrated in my search for the 968 of my dreams....of course, the one I want is rare....an Amazon Green Metallic Cabriolet with black interior and black top - 6 speed.....



There is an amazon green Cab on autotrader right now, price is great, but its Automatic with Cashmere interior....



From looking at the 968 registry, there are very very few Amazon green cab with black interiors and 6speed....i would consider the gray interior or the black/light gray interior but I am not a big fan of cashmere which I understand is a nice combo with the amazon green exterior....



For years I had a really nice 944 coupe, guards red and black interior, but somehow red doesn't seem to work for me on the 968, not sure exactly why.....I have considered black, but again, somehow it just doesn't seem right for me.....



There was an amazon green cab, 6 speed, black interior on ebay in early 2007, which somehow I missed.....



So, I am at the point where I am so sick of looking and paranoid that I may miss one on the internet that I am driving myself nutty and am starting to think I should just find a decent 944 cab in red/black, or buy an old 911 or something.....



just curious if anyone has gone through a really tough search for that one 968 and how did it work out....

I toiled for about 5 months... not as long as some, I'm sure, but I wasn't as picky on the color combo... I simply wanted a 6-speed cab. I saw several on eBay that fit the bill, and I also tried AutoTrader and Yahoo! and MSN, and... but cars.com was the place I found mine... was in Seattle-area, so I had to fly 1700 miles and then drive 1700 miles (not a complaint, mind you! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ). Even the purchase process took a month, with the intra-state thing going on. Well worth the wait, so hang in there! One will come along!

I have a 25k mile, 6 speed, red/black 92 cabriolet with many rare options including LSD, headlight washers and hi fi sound. I just spent $6k in deferred maintenance including but not limited to timing belt, water pump, belts, new rubber. The car is ready to go, won 3rd place in a recent concours and will be featured in an upcoming book on the history of Porsche North America written and photographed by the renown Randy Leffingwell. Price is $25k. Car is nearly flawless.



I also own an uber rare cobalt blue coupe and spent over two years looking for that particular color. When this red low mile cab came available I had to get it. I haven't seen a lower mile 6 speed cab in over a year. While I agree, Amazon green is a great color, you may never find what you're looking for or have a car that does not have a paper trail. My car is all original, has all paperwork including original sticker, and is a one owner vehicle. Have many pix. PM me if interested.

If you want a black interior than buy the car with a different color interior and either dye it black or swap the interior.

I've been looking on/off for 6 years. Five years ago I won a car on ebay but the inspection revealed lots of problems on the car, so I got out of the deal and kept looking. I would actually try for about 2-3 months out of the year and then stop because I couldn't find what I wanted for the right price. In the last 3 months I started again when finally came across a local car with the right price and color combo.



Good luck! Guards Red / Black looks quite "hot" - check out the one at Truspeed. I'm not into Red but this one looks fantastic.

while i love the look of a black interior, i had the "pleasure" of letting my better half experience just how bad an idea it was in a convertible - we came out from breakfast to the car with its top left down in the sun for an hour - scorched in unmentionable places, she yelled at me the whole way home, as i grinned, trying desperately to hold back the "i told you so"

I have been looking for a low milage cobalt Blue 968 for about 3yrs and have had no luck. But i am still looking and being hopefull that it may just pop up someday. I bought a red cab just to hold me over till i do find 1 , this seems to keep me sane for the time being.

Simple answer is, search for a unicorn and maybe never find it or broaden your search. I will tell you that you are missing a whole lot of fun by waiting.



Buy an "Acceptable" one now and continue your search. 968s in good condition are not that hard to sell.

Amazon is a surprisingly common 968 color (mostly in 1993), for a fairly rare color. I have only seen one 964 in Amazon.



But every Amazon car I have ever seen had a cashmere interior. There may be a few with black, but they are gonna be hard to find. Further narrowing it to cabriolet and you are fishing in an about empty pond. I think you need a slightly broader range of colors to find 1 of the 5,000 968s that will fit your requirements.

I say stick to your guns and keep looking. Every time I buy a Porsche and compromise on anything other than a repair, I come to regret it. The light interior in my 95 coupe is going to be a major pain in the butt to change, judging from my exercise removing the interior from my 944S. Doable, sure, but not exactly fun and every mistake will stare me in the face. The "discounted" purchase price never even covers the deferred repair bill not to mention the months sitting in the shop, and I'm still staring at a light interior...



I have only myself to blame. Well, that and the guy took cash for the 93 black/black coupe that I'd shaken hands with him on, but that's a different story...



So anyway, if it's important enough that you've looked for it this long, I think you might want to keep looking.

No offense to anyone out there because we all have different tastes, but I was looking at the gray interior and I just would not want a gray dash and steering wheel, etc....i really like the black dash/light gray carpeting and seats, seems like a nice blend....



I thought about buying something to hold me over, but, when I really think about it, I am going to wait til I find something that really gets me excited....



And certainly no offense to anyone who drives an automatic 968, but I am looking for a 6 speed and I can't tell you how frustrating it is to see a promising ad - open it and find there's no clutch....wish they just made em all with 6 speed, I would have a much larger pool of cars to search from....

I'm with you. In my case it would have been better to go with most of the other non-black interior colors, because at least the top dash area would have been black along the lines of flash's last response. On the other hand, I think the black dash from my 944S would bolt right in if I didn't mind the cracks...

I have a 93 cab, Amazon Green over grey interior with the 6 speed that I am getting ready to sell. The car is not concours cosmetically in that is has original paint and has been a regular driver, so there is the usual amount of chips to the nose of the car.



What is nice is the mechanical condition of the car. I have had it for three years and have pretty much sorted it out. She has total mileage of less than 85K miles. New brakes and tires. Fresh tuneup including wires, rotor and distributor cap. At 65K miles, she had a new clutch and flywheel installed. Also, fresh timing and balance shaft belts at the same time. Engine and transmission oils changed out this year.



When I was looking for the car, it took me several months to find the right car. I was looking for a southern car that had never seen snow or salt and a car with full documentation. I found her in North Carolina. Full documentation and had spent most of her life in New Orleans (pre-Katrina!). The car has absolutely zero rust and no accident history.



I would characterize the car as pretty much stock. I have fitted

the RS Barnes exhaust and have installed his Stage 1 computer chip which really makes it run better. The car is also equipped with factory 17" wheels, which is a little bit rare these days.



The top on the car is so-so. It's gray and the rear window is clear, but there is one very small cut, about 1/2" long. The operating mechanism works perfectly. When sorting the car out, I had replaced both top driver cables and transmissions (several years ago). The top is not the original top, but is not pristine. This has never been a concern for me since I keep the top down whenever driving the car!



I have the original top boot and the original tool kit and tire compressor.



She's up for sale since we don't have enough good weather here in Chicago for me to drive her regularly. I have put less than 6000 miles on the car since I've owned it. So, I am replacing her with 93 Guards Red 968 Coupe, which is more practical since I really want to drive these cars daily.



She is not a concurs car, but I've priced her accordingly at $13,500.



Let me know if I can provide additional info. This is the 7th Porsche I have owned in the last 30 years, and I can't imagine being without one!
