Will 944 floor mats fit the 968?
#1

As the topic asks, will 944 mats fit the 968?

I would like to get rubber/plastic mats (like from Weathertech) and they sell 944-specific mats but not 968-specific mats from what I can tell.

I do not want the carpeted mats- too much trouble to clean and they wear out too quickly.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

The floor mats are the same.

PS no worries on the PM. I understand. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

As an alternative to plastic that you may wish to consider, I've used Coco Mats for a long time and love them. They won't wear as well as plastic or rubber but they do wear much better and longer than carpet. They look better, too, IMHO.

I have both Porsche and Coco mats, the OEMs look nice but get dirty fast! The Cocos look nice but not the same as OEM. The Cocos do not show dirt much an dlook better than any plastic one you will see.

In my DD Jetta, I have the OEM rubber mats- the very first "mod" (if you can call it that) that I did. My wife's Pilot has Weathertech rubber/plastic mats in the front.

There is no comparison, in my opinion, between excellent fitting rubber/plastic mats and carpet or coco mats. The rubber and plastic mats specifically designed to fit a particular vehicle are far superior in my mind.

Just my honest opinion.

Weathertech mats for the 968 are already on the way...!

From what source did you order them?

Directly from Weathertech. I searched (MSN is my homepage) for "weathertech.com" and the first hit was the right one. Then I searched for products via the vehicle-specific search. I used a 1991 Porsche 944 as the vehicle. Then I went to the floor mats link and ordered away.

They always have a huge ad in Car&Driver and/or Road&Track.

Ordered black to match my interior. Should be here in a day or two. Will report back with initial impressions....

I am not a happy camper- got the mats. Came packaged very well- looked great, very flexible, yet heavy. I was excited.... Then I went to put them in the car. Driver's side first. Did not fit. Then I noticed something- if I flipped it over such that the top was now sitting on the carpet, the fit was damn near perfect!!! Well, could they have molded one side wrong???? So over to the passenger's side I go. Exact same thing- right side up, doesn't fit like it should. Flip it and all is good (not great, but good and more than acceptable. Could they have the molds completely wrong?

So I call... Nope, molds are correct. Website is misleading. Mats for 944 are not custom- they just picked the ones that were closest and called them 944-specific basically. NOT HAPPY. Weathertech (MacNeil) is sending me an RGA label- they will be going back for a full refund.

The lady even said they would have no interest in correcting the situation. Tis a shame as I would have been extremely happy if they were right and fit like they could have.

Major bummer.

So to anyone who went ahead and purchased these based upon my findings, I am sorry. Be prepared to send them back.

That's a very disappointing story about WeatherTech. I have had good experiences with their products.

Yeah- it is a little disappointing. I too have other Weathertech products and find them to be top notch.

I ended up ordering some bulk rubber mat from another outfit. This is the stuff that just has "cups". It won't be a perfect look like a pre-designed mat complete with edges and special ridges here and there, but it will serve the purpose and they will be cut by me to fit perfectly. I expect to be satisfied.

I'll report back once I have the stuff and cut it.

The bulk stuff finally arrived on the 23rd.

Didn't get a chance to cut the pieces, but I hope to next week.

I'll take some pics and post.

I ended up having to buy a 4'x4' piece- cost me $70 shipped. The material appears to be excellent. I think this will work out very well. Once I have them done, I let everyone know my final impressions. I'll also post the website from where I ordered in case anyone else wants to go this route. The guy who owns the estore is good to deal with, but it took a very long time to get the material (he normally doesn't sell "bulk"). But I think it will be worth it.

I bought a set of Loyd (sp?) mats...fit is perfect, they are inexpensive, they are well made, and they are solid rubber backed. When they wear out, you can get another set. Good choice of colors and trim. Thick fairly tight weave of soft rayon or something.

(I used the 'show link' function w/cut and paste..should go directly to the post in question)

Knew about Lloyds. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of carpeted mats. I put rubber/plastic mats in both of our other cars and haven't looked back since. My wife's Pilot has Weathertech and they're great. Also has the rear plastic mat from Honda. Also amazing. My Jetta has the OEM VW rubber mats and they are also amazing. The carpeted mats for both are in a storage container in my garage.

Cleaning the rubber/plastic mats is the easiest thing in the world and they don't wear out like the carpet. No fading, no ripping, no issues with prolonged contact with water, no wear spots.

Can ya tell I don't like normal mats?! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
