OK, so here is my summary of what we know:
If you want rubber mats, Jim determined that Weathertech mats are not customized for our cars. He made some mats by cutting them out of some black mat material that he found. They look great and don't have any issues with odor or outgassing from the rubber.
Jim, we need the source info for this material and to determine if it comes in colors other than black.
According to Mark and Flash, Lloyds and Porsche OE mats are both an "exact match" to Classic grey interiors (great news for me!).
Porsche doesn't supply mats in Midnight Blue or Marine Blue any more. Lloyds has a good match for Marine Blue, according to Darryl. We don't know about the Lloyds match for Midnight Blue. We'll need to get a report back from Johann when he gets his.
According to Darryl, the Lloyds mats have a plastic clip on a strap from the mat that connects to a mating clip on a strap that clips into the seat rails with a metal spring connector.
This sounds like the mats I currently have in my car. I don't like this system because my mats tend to shift laterally and I have to keep realigning them every week or so. This may just be due to the age of my mats and the fact that the ruberized backing is old and dry.
The mats that Jeff shows in his post seem like the best design. They would stay in place longitudinally, laterally, and directionally.
Unfortunately, nobody seems to know where to get them. Bummer.
I can't quite picture the Porsche OE mat securing configuration as described.
Mark described 3 or 4 pins going into the carpet and Flash describes jaw clamping hooks.
We need pictures... or at least more description.
We're not sure if the Porsche OE mat is made by Lloyds or not.
According to Darryl, the Lloyds mats (Ultimats) are much nicer than the stock Porsche ones.
By the way, the price quote I got from Sunset for the Porsche mats made me very happy. Much better than Pelican.
Since they don't post that info on their web site, I won't quote it here, but you will definitely want to give them a call if you are going with the Porsche mats.
Much cheaper than Lloyds with similar embroidery, unless you get a great E-bay deal like Mark.
Updates and corrections?
