Cab rear seats
#1

I've been thinking about pulling out my rear storage cubby and making the back two "seats" somewhat usable again.  I have 2 younger kids that can probably fit back there for a few more years and it might be nice to take some family weekend drives in the 968.  Has anyone looked into this?  Can I source the rear seat inserts or would I have to have something custom made.  My cab is a 1992 so it should have the hardware for seatbelts already installed.  I figure I can handle that part of it.  I rarely us the back cubbies (can probably do without the 12 disc CD changed the PO put in) so this would give me a little more usability.  I grew up riding some in the back of a 1985 944 so I am familiar with the lack of space back there.  Figure a few young boys can handle it for short rides.

Thanks in advance!

ROW cars had a back seat, it's all ready to install, including seat belt locations, etc.

That is what I have gathered.  If I pull out the storage cubby will I still need to add bottom cushions?  I know that I need to add seat belts, and I can see how the back rest is already par of the car.  I guess I just don't know how much work and cost is involved, or if it is a pretty quick and simple process.  Was hoping someone on the board here may have given this a go already and could provide some insight.  Thanks.

When you pull the cubbie there will only be carpet at the bottom on the floor boards.  You will also have two metal tabs poking out that would hit you in the back if you dont cut them or drill the spot weld.  I removed mine and the carpeting folds over where they poked out nicely.  Only I know the carpet is cut 2" at that spot.  You can find someone parting a newer true 94 or 95 coupe and purchase the seat bottoms that will sit nicely in your carpeted wells or you can take the 92/93 style coupe rear seat section to your auto upholstery guy and he can modify this piece to effectively be two small seat cushions that are already form fitted and will just sit there nicely.  I did the latter and love it,   Purchasing the rear seat cushions from a true 94 or 95 is the easiest though...throw em in there in the will instantly fit like glove.  John

All sounds good, thanks!  What did you do for seat belts?  Just after market lap belts or did you find OEMs?  Thanks.

I used a set from a 944 S2 cab as they came with seats/seat belts.

I recently did this on my 92 cab - I actually bought the rear cushions from John - thanks pal!

The only thing I would add is that the lap belts dont fit super tightly on my 6 year olds and it doesnt seem safe to let them ride back there yet - I sourced a place in England that makes custom 3 point belts and they have photos of a completed project for a 944 cabriolet.

Im still waiting on the belts but because the photos dont show where the mounting points were created for the shoulder belt Im not sure how its going to turn out. In the coupes the shoulder belt attached on the pillar, we might need to construct something on our convertibles.
