The seats are due for some kind of fixing............I find them ucomfortable on a trip. I have the 8 positions seats but still can't find the proper support for my lower back. Can I over stuff these seats when they get redone? Ya know like a lumbar support? Anyone ever try this?

When you take into account how stiff and hard the side bolsters and head rest are, I must say that I find them surprisingly comfortable. My only complaint is that the bucket is not deep enough. Wish all were like the deep bucket 951 seats.
I love my 968 for what it is & don't hate it for what it isn't!

If you have pre 94 seats. You can pull the center back cushion
at the edges. I find that it is attached to the frame by nylon strings.
I was able to do this, I put extra material at the lower back and
it is not noticable once tucked in. Made a nice difference for me.
I just keep adjusting/adding material as needed.

Ross, Porsche did offer a lumbar seat option on the 968 buckets (option codes 513/586). Another option for you is to keep an eye out for a set of used buckets with this option. They are rare but they are out there. The controls are right on the seat so I believe it may be as easy as installing them and pluging them in to get your lumbar support.

I find them very comfortable. I drove 400+ miles without stopping a few months back. I was surprised how good I felt when I got out of the car. My passenger noted the same. These seats are as comfortable as the sport seats in my Volvo!
I just noticed you've owned THREE Austin-Healey's! I thought I was the only one who owned one of these (mine was a 1965 BJ8). It was an absolutely gorgeous car, almost unparalleled in the annals of automotive beauty, imho, if you'll allow me the hyperbole. It was an absolute dog to drive, though, and got pretty crappy gas mileage to boot, and I'm much happier with a performance-oriented sports car like the 968, but nothing I've ever owned attracted the type of attention as the Healey did. It was almost embarrassing at times, but it was a lot of fun.
My favorite Healey story was when I was driving it once while moving to a new house. My tool chest fit snugly in the right rear seat, pinned between the back of the front passenger seat and the convertible top. The chest is a standard-sized Crafstman unit, maybe 4' tall by 3' wide by 2' deep. A driver in the car next to me took a long look, and hollered, "I didn't thing they were THAT unreliable..."
Dispite all their issues Ya know I loved every one of them..........The 1961 was my favorite though. It had that old buckboad quality. After 61 they got into the plusher interiors and the baby carrige top roll up windows. That 61, or was it a 60 ...hmmmmm.... It was the year they made both the 1006 and the 3000, and had the removable top with frame and side curtains. The SOUND oh man to die for. It was in the 60's and I would do what we did a lot of then and just ride around eating up the sound and 10 lbs. of junk food. I had a t shirt then that said on the front " Why do the British drink warm beer" and on the back it said "Because Lucas makes the refigerators" It was so true. If it rained I would lose a distributor cap. Cracked every time. One time I put the top up when it was wet and when it dried it pulled so hard on the widshield it cracked it. I have so many stories about each one of the three. Like things I wouldn't try to do again in one.
Thanks for getting me to remember what fun they were.

Are you looking to keep adjustability or a fixed seat? You'll save a lot of weight with the fixed seats. The Recaro Pole Position is available in cloth or leather and weights in at 15.4lbs for cloth (I'd assume a couple pounds more for leather) and are available new for ~$650 cloth, ~$1300 leather...probably save a ton over 996 GT3 Seats.

Recaro makes the GT3 Seats for Porsche. Do a google search for "Recaro Pole Position vs. GT3 Seats" and you'll find a few comparison threads. Sounds like the GT3 seats are a little narrower.
