Best colour for 968
#61

The color is "Torch Red". No dye was used. The entire dash was removed from the car and recovered with the same vinyl material, top and bottom. I dont remember the company which made the vinyl, but it is very soft, leather-like material. easy to stretch and apply.

So the original (black?) vinyl is still on the dash, under the new red material? I assume they glued it? What did they do for the door panel tops? Covered with vinyl? As those pieces are actually molded in the color of the interior. I'm sorry I won't be at Hershey. I would love to see the car in person. The results are very impressive. A few years back we had a guy with a black cab who did his interior a buckskin leather color at the hershey event (anyone remember it?). Looked good too.

the original black vinyl is under the new red vinyl. It was stretched and glued ontop of the old, faded black. There were some cracks in the dash that were repaired with glue/sanding before the vinyl was recovered so as to make it flawless. The door panel tops were done in the same way, taken off of the car and covered/glued with the red vinyl. There is a place in Detroit which does a similar thing for our cars www.classic9leathershop.com looks like they do great work, but are <b>much much</b> more expensive.

Jon, I think I am changing my mind.... black exterior and red interior are usually quite low on my list of preferences, but this car looks fantastic!

While I didn't specifically look for it at the time, and the photo of the car in the ad when I purchased it did not represent it very well, I am now very enamored of my Wimbledon Green. I see some colors on 968's that I like a lot, but this has really grown on me.

"I think was light grey interior. Entire dash I think. My white is light grey, with black here and there, but only bottom half of dash is grey(top is black). I think bottom being grey is one of the mystery option codes I have. Cant find it anywhere."

I think we can figure it out. I would guess your base interior is code TS light grey/Black partial leather. Now, you can order deviation options on top of the base interior. Carpet is the most popular deviating option. The photo below is my old cab. It had the code TU light grey/classic gray interior. Now normally this interior (and your's) would having matching light gray carpet. My car was ordered with the deviating carpet option in classic gray. Notice that not only the carpet is different but also the carpet on the lower doors. So, how does this compare to your car?

This looks similar to the maritime blue. My white one has has a black upper dash, lower part is light gray, gray seats, and tops of the door panels are black. Steering wheel is black too. Floormats are black. Its in storage, Ill get the option code, and maybe a pic, when I pay the bill this week, and start it up.

Yeah, those teeming crowds of 968s in the mall parking lots do get pretty tiresome

Ah, point taken. But honestly, some colors do tend to make the 968 disappear which naturally can be either good or bad.

My car, 39E go figure, has a tendency for attracting the long arm of the law since it is so easy to spot. It also attracts every human being from age 5 or below, I guess it is the toy car looks

Thanks for all the compliments on the red interior! It certianly gave the car a lot of life when it was completed. When I bought my 968, it had been abused by some rich guy's kid. The interior was so awefully taken care of that fungus was growing on the carpet and the dash had been punched/knifed repeatedly by some psycho, borderline personality freakshow. The transmission was shot, the brakes didnt work, and the electrical system was full of gremlins. I paid $5000 for the car, and it had somewhere around 20K miles. First, I had the transmission replaced with a new one from PartsHeaven, did the timing belt/tuning, rebuilt the braking system and parts, and then had the interior replaced. The guy who did the interior was in Lansing, Michigan. Luna's Custom Upholstery. Family buisness with a ton of awards and magazine publications. They replaced the carpet and essentially recovered every peice of vinyl in the car as well as recovering the seats. I dropped the car off in the winter, and picked it up in the spring, total cost being $3300 for a completely new interior. I was really impressed with their service and dedication to perfection. They did a fantastic job, and id highly recommend them. I was actually amazed at how easy it was to remove all the moldings and dash, as well as to recover everything. Iv thought about doing it again someday if I ever get a different 968. Next on the list...supercharger and exhaust...drool. See you all at Hershey.

That looks amazing. I am replying partly so that I can find this information again if I decide to change my interior.
