Why so many 968's for sale in Fla. lately?
#1

Has anyone else noticed the amount of 968's in Fla. for sale lately? Have not checked all other states, but at least on the forums, several from Florida have popped up and been discussed.

Summer is over, real estate continues to tank, population is moving out of FL, etc etc.. Or just a coincidence.

florida has historically been a popular place for these cars to pop up - not sure why - both times when i was looking there were quite a few - in fact, my blue car was originally a florida car

Yes, I've noticed that, too. When I was looking for mine, I noticed that quite a few of the available 968s were from Florida.

Because of the melting icecaps there is going to be less parking available for these cars in Florida soon. Sell them quick!!

I love my 968 for what it is & don't hate it for what it isn't!

That can't be it, I head that much to Al's dismay the ice caps started freezing again and his carbon offset stock started plummiting.

Its funny, I had made the decision to sell mine and buy a Cayman about 60 days ago and placed an ad on Autotrader. The wife just doesn't feel comfortable driving it. At the time there was only one other car there in the stae to look at. These 2 cars that surfaced in Orlando so close to each other is weird, but I'm sure that it will get back to normal after they move on and be beck to just 2-3 cars in the state for sale at any one time. But I'm still doing Autocross, still thinking about the M030 bar upgrade and so on. Probably just keep tweaking it and spending money until a buyer shows up. If I sell it fine, if not, fine too.

Wiseman, do you think that some of these cars could have been water damaged? I am from S. Ga. and I know how the storms are around there, esp. mid Fl.

Well you never know for sure..................but I will say this.....after living in Florida now for 6 years on the coast most Floridians know if they are in a flood zone. Our Homeowners insurance is rated on those facts. So if there is a chance of flooding, those folks that are in those areas have plenty of notice and move the cars to higher ground, which in many cases may be just up the street. The areas that flood are the ones that the local news love to put on the TV.............but they are really minimal. As you say, I would be more leary of cars in areas like yours where the flooding catches many people by surprise and they can't react. I lived in South Carolina for 2 years and I can tell you, the clay in S.C and Georgia doesn't soak up water worth a poop. Florida is all sand. Water runs right thru it.

do you think that maybe a large number were sold in FL to begin with? We have a large number of dealers & they sell alot of cars. Besides, there are a large amount of people with money, me excluded.

I bought both my 968s out of Florida. Seems like some of the 968s in FL were vehicles used during winter while their owners were down from the north. My red cab came from a FL woman who lived in Missouri during the summer. The rest of the year, the car sat in the garage. In California, the cars seemed to get used all year round.

Too bad there is no-one who could check on how many were originally sold in Fl. Maybe someone who has connections with PCNA could check that out.
Yeah Wiseman, I meant the hurricanes that people have to git-up-an-boogie, leaving things behind that are replaceable and may take too much time to worry about. I was working in Jax for DOD when Charlie came thru, even though there was plenty of warning for the hurricane, a tornado sneaked in and blasted a large area.

Yea, they can really cause some issues with wind damage, which nobody really knows who will get hit and when, but most of the flooding associated with the hurricanes are right on the water and theres plenty of notice. In fact, even in 04 when Charlie ripped thru Punta Gorda, the wind caused all of the damage, not really any serious storm surge. The rivers flooded and took out some really low lying neighborhoods, but they knew about it 24 hrs. ahead of time and got most of the valuables, including the cars, out. We haven't had anything hit the state now since 05............so again, I woudn't be too worried now about cars being dumped in Florida becouse of flood damage.

If I recall correctly there are still a few states where vehicle titles can be laundered from salvage to "normal" and then sold. Florida may be one. Or it simply may be a state that is lax in researching and/or enforcing such activities that occurred in other states before titling in Florida. Who knows?

Why so many 968s in Florida? The Sunshine State? That explains the cabs. A fair amount of money in pockets - that explains some of hte original purchases. Great AC in these too - which is a must in FLA.

My point was that for them to be for sale in FL they needed to get there somehow. Not sure why the current anomoly. There have been a few times when I've seen 4 or 5 for sale in AZ at the same time adn I wondered the same thing - have the moons aligned or ???
