I have red rear lenses with white reversing light sections...apparently standard spec for Japanese cars.

Possibly the total clear lenses are a Korean standard spec.

Well in the 968 part catalog there are only listed the: ROW, USA-CDN, and the Japanese versions. So would definetly believe these are aftermarket. An since in Asia is where most of the custom tail lights come from for all kinds of cars. Sombody has made them for a 968. But how many?

what is the differance between the USA-CDN & ROW tail lights?

The red side reflector is included in the USA-CDN version. And the ROW has E1 marked on all the tail light, turn signal, reverse and rear fog light. You can see the position on the USA-CDN version where they would be because of the circles on the light. I have both the USA-CDN and the ROW tail lights.

id love to know where to get a set too....you could come up with a few cool ideas using various types of spray-on tail lamp tinting material.

i think the all red tails on the US spec cars looks cool, but i recall seeing a set of the japanese spec tails and it broke up the rear end a little bit more. i also always dreamed of being able to custom make a set to mimic the 996 tail lamps...smoked on the top half, red on the bottom.... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/cool.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

i'd pay good money for a set of these clear lamps

ditto^

It would also look cool to take the clear lights and paint them to mimic the late 928 tail lights (red brakes, orange signals, white reverses).

Porsche made a set just like your speaking of. if you want that look, buy a set of japanese spec 968 Taillights. The turn signals are amber, the brake lights red & the reverse lights white.

yuck - with every kid with a honda, mazda, and such looking like that, i am glad our car doesn't - i think it looks very "low rent" - the solid red lights look great, and are a significant improvment over the previous 944 lights

some kid at the dealership suggested i get those white things for my denali - i just about slapped him - i told him i didn't want any stupid carbon fiber junk either

fads - thank god they go away in time

Except on a Guards Red car.

hmmm - they do clash a bit - i've never been a big fan of guards red (even though that's the color i painted my mgb) - everything clashes with it, because it is so orange - i prefer the bluer red of the ferrari

somehow red seems to be an odd color for this car - i passed on 2 red cabs becuase it somehow just struck me wrong - i know a few guys who did the same thing when they were shopping for theirs - i'm warming up to it, but it wasn't an immediate thing

try porsche japan

check your local state laws regarding lights too - they may not be legal - also, there is a federal code that dictates what a light must be to be on a US car, and a little DOT number is molded right in - older cars did not have this kind of lens, as they did not meet the standards - if you are in a state that has light inspections, you could be screwed

My recollection from my days of owning an 84 gray market 928 is that red tail lights are a Federal DOT mandate. If so, or if state laws also apply, these would certainly be a cop magnet. But they do look cool.
