White Wheels
#1

Am I crazy to have my wheels made white?

Am I looking at something that will require constant attention because of brake dust?

Wouldn't it look loverly, though?

Can anybody photoshop something for me, so I can see what a red coupe would look like with white wheels?

i've seen that before (not on a 968)

pretty blingy for sure, but if you're dead set on it, don't use paint - powder coat them

I like the white wheel look. I can only get you a picture of white wheels on a half red car. They get dirty, but you wash your car after every event - right?

Thanks Eric!

Yep, I do wash the car after each event...it makes it go faster, right?

No. But you may want to stock up on Bananarama, Go-Go's, and Wham! CDs

Yeah, you may have a point...

But, it's a track car...and there seems to be a little more of a relaxed, and fun, attitude about what your car looks like.

Of course I may be going a bit too far!

White rims are a bit of a pain, especially when your breaks kick up a lot of dust. I have C2 Cup rims that are both white and silver, with white crests in the middle. They look very nice on a white car, which is itself hard to keep clean

I think it would look nice on a track car especially if you have white somewhere else on the car to balance it and integrate it (ie car numbering, sponsorships). If it's just a solid red car with white wheels, it might look a bit incomplete.

Some 944 Turbo Cups came with white wheels.

Would black be a simpler solution?

I haven't got my new server synced up yet, but here is a picture of my car:

white 968

Personally I m quite fond of rim colours that match the body colour. Red on red, white on white, etc

I've seen a few Guards Red 911s with white "fuchs" wheels. I think it's a very handsome/attractive combo.

I also agree that body colored wheels look great.

Check it out:

Wow, that's a nice deep red! Though I wonder ho the rims would look like with a silver ring like on mine. Would it pop too much?

It's personal preference. I've done both and like the white look better. White definitely photographs better. Brake dust on a track cars wheels shouldn't be frowned on.

I also agree that body match or contrast give the cars more personality. It is a much less startling look if you have a silver paint job.

Well, I guess this thread has put me over the edge. I was considering getting my other set of OEM wheels powder coated white, so now it's a done deal. Now I just have to decide if I should change the caliper color from black to something else. Time to break out Photoshop...

hmmm - i guess i'll have to be the voice of dissension here (lol - yeah, that's never happened)

i find it too "cartooney" - it's one thing on a race car, where you are trying to draw attention to it on behalf of the sponsors, so i get that, but on a street car i think it looks very dated and/or ricey - i think wheels are like the jewelry for your car, and that painted wheels are more like plastic beads - fine for kids, but not real jewelry

also, i would never do white, even on a race car - too many bad experiences with the stewards in tech - they can be very strict, and anything that looks clean generally passes much more easily than something dirty - i can't imagine white wheels ever looking clean

That's precisely why I've been going back and forth...not happening anytime soon since the painting of the spare set is on hold while Wurth gets the spray can problems fixed. Then, put new, refinished wheels on car, repair curb rash on old wheels, etc., etc. Plus there's that $$$ issue too!

Overall I dislike colored wheels.....BUT....I think white on white works well.

There was a nice looking one on autotrader, but it seems to be off now. Perhaps it sold.

Found it....kinda blurry though
