Where can I find part # 94410517909?

lol - you guys would be in much better contact if you actually responded to the PMs you are sending back and forth, and not the emails telling you that you have a PM.

Huh? I've been responding through the IM system on the site.

lol - yeah - i would have to look at who the culprit is. i know that i've seen messages about this part a few times though. i get copied on them when somebody responds to the notification, because it came from the site, and not the sender. consequently the response then goes to the admin address and not the originator

Ah, OK. Given the repeated warnings about this, I think I'm very careful to always respond through the site's IM system, and not to the notification email.

could be only mefford. i can go back and check. i only know for sure that i have see a few of the messages regarding this part. so, at least one of you has been doing it.

it isn't so much a warning as a note to say "hey - your mail is going to the wrong address, and if you want it to go where you intend, then do this"

Interesting - as far as I can tell, we've gotten all of each others' messages, all through the IM system. I wonder if one of us has a setting that's making it look like we're responding to the notification email.

if you hit "reply" to the email that you get from the website, it sends it to the admin. if you reply to the PM, it's fine.

i just looked, and all of the emails i got were from mefford. so, it looks like you're doing things just fine. he just needs to turn off his notifications in his control panel on this website.

back on topic.

thank you for taking up this project. i just don't have time, and both of mine are perfect, so i had no motivation for doing this.

No problem. I'm glad to hopefully, in some small way, give something back to this site. There are still some logistics to work out (what a shock!), the primary one being finding a shop to actually manufacture the final units, but I think there are plenty of good candidates in case Keith's ends up not working out. And of course there's the sponsorship issue to work out as well. Is this something we should discuss through this thread, or should we take it offline?

That's what I figured. I'll give you a buzz when we get closer to finding prospective manufacturers. Thanks.

After all this talk I started looking over my unit and guess what I found....and yes problem traced back to distributer cap offset issue as well

What exactly are we seeing there - the corrosion? The separation of the two halves?

I was wondering the same thing. Could someone who is pretty confident theirs doesn't have a problem please post a picture for comparison? Thanks.

There are 3 pieces, back and 2 fronts that interlock. Due to warppage the parts no longer fit together and since the Dist Cap mounts to the warpped part it no longer sits even with rotor and is now cocked slightly. Inspection of cap reveals that rotor hitting or close to hitting point and evidenced by the scorch mark. The shield on mine is magnesium.

I sure hope I haven't just missed the whole point of this topic or I'm really goona feel like a total idiot. Although the problem is real

I thought the original problem was corrosion to the point of complete disintegration, and a resultant lack of proper fit. Your problem is also exacerbated by warping?

Yes, and areas on the back part that crumbled. I discovered the problem originally when I did the belt and water pump but at that time didnt notice the warpping till this post came up. I'm afraid to tighten or otherwise mess with it as I think it will completely crack. I'm gonna have to do something soon as this is my daily driver. Oh well need to replace Hall sensor anyway

Your pics look just like mine does when I cobble it back together. Yes, the issue is the same as this post. The mount points corrode and crumble away. You can't see it while assembled. I should have taken pictures. Because the mounts can't be properly tightened, the two clam shells can't be seated to one another. To compound the issue, the distributor cap mounts to one of the clam shells. Mine is corroded pretty bad. I have one functional mount left and one guide pin.

Talked to my "mechanic" and was informed getting the back part off is total pain in the a$$

Hmm, now I'm beginning to wonder about the health of mine. This sounds like something that may be more widespread than many of us think, and may be responsible for a lot of the rough idle problems many complain of, although I'm just speculating here. Unfortunately, Keith has had some major personal and family issues that have impacted his rate of progress. Hopefully we'll find someone fairly quickly who can manufacture replacement parts once Keith has the drawings done, because it sounds like a lot of people may need them.

Edit: Does the 944 have a similar piece, or is that ending'er distributor mount different?

I'm pretty confident this issue is/should be wide spread. Magnesium corrodes... that's what it does.

Hopefully we get our 968forum part available soon. It's great its even being worked.

I'll do whatever I can to move it along. Unfortunately, this kind of thing always seems to take about ten times as long as we think it should.
