Wheels switch question
#1

Not Porsche . I want to switch the wheels betrween my son's two Nissans ; both wheels are the same size dimensions ( 6.5 x 16 ) same bolt pattern ( 4 x 114.3 ) but the offsets are different : one has a 40 offset and the other has a 45 offset. Will that pose any problems ?

The lower the number, the more the wheel moves away from the center of the car. Too low and they could hit the fender, too high and they could hit the calipers. 5mm is not that much, but it really depends on the direction. If you are taking off the 45 offset and putting on the 40 offset, probably no big deal. If the car currently has the 40 offset and replacing them with the 45, you could possibly have a problem with the rim being too close to the brakes.

Thanks. Yes m taking off the 45 and putting on the 40. There seems to be ample space ( in fact too much space IMO ) all around the wheel well to probably fit even a size bigger wheel as well as one which extends considerably further out . And although the other car will get the 45s in return, that one is old, rarely used , and very likely being donated to a charity that sells them for parts, so probably not a big deal if the offset is just a bit closer to the brakes..I'm guessing 5 mm won't interfere too much there either .

Well, so much for that attempt ..no problem with the wheels but the center cap cannot be pushed in place because the center bolt protrudes out a couple of mm ( does not seem as if it's the entire 5 mm, but maybe just a couple of mms ) more than the other car's set up .

Spacers? 5mm is pretty minimal and should not cause any problems.

Forgot to ask ; it also needs a front end alignment - does it make any difference if the alignment is done while the old wheels are still on, or should it wait until the new wheels are installed ?

assuming the wheels and tires are essentially the same width, the amount of change you are making should have no appreciable effect
