Wheel locks
#1

I am looking for a set of either key or special socket locks for my twist wheels. I have a set of clear ano. aluminum nuts to match the silver body color.

Anyone have a set for sale or know of where I might buy a new set?

Any pros or cons regarding the key vs. the socket type?

Brian

are you sure you want wheels locks? unless you live in a very high crime rate - these factory wheels are rarely stolen anymore - you also then have the chance of losing the key and going through what so many others have had to go through in getting the wheels off

if you're sure, they are easy and cheap enough to get - mcgard is the manufacturer of the OEM later type - they sell direct too - www.mcgard.com

Your logic sounds right to me. The area crime and the wheels do not warrant the locks. I have read the stories about lost keys and sockets.

Thanks for the advice. No locks for me.

I was thinking about getting these at one time, and I asked myself "how many people do you know have had their wheels stolen?" The answer: None.

lol - yeah - that's my thought method too - i haven't even heard of anybody having wheels stolen by themselves in over 20 years - the whole car, yes, but not just the wheels

funny how much we hang onto that idea though - i still have my locks, and since the installation of the HRE wheels, i haven't been able to let myself let go of them, even though i have no intention of using tham at this time

keep the locks in the trunk and if you ever have to leave the car for a long time in an area where you think there is a greater risk of punks ( because REAL car thieves will take the entire auto ) trying to rip off just your wheels, put the locks on at that time.

and flash, I don't want to hear remarks about the extra WEIGHT the locks will add to the vehicle, which in addition to impeding optimum acceleration, will possibly throw off the perfect 50/50 balance, compelling a realignment...at the very least ..

lol - actually, the locks are now lighter than my lug nuts - remember, i had to switch to steel so i can take the car out on the track

but now that you mention it, a computer contolled dampening system with accelerometers and photo electric detectors that could compensate for the rotational mass..........wait - i'll get right on that

They don't make the key type any more and you can't get blanks for them. I got a set of the socket type from Sunset Porsche for about $40.

I have two sets of locks and would sell either. One is original Porsche and the other requires a hex cap to remove. With the hex cap removed, they look exactly like regular lugs. Both are black.
