Removing Wheel Locks w/o key
#1

My 968 has a set of the Porsche keyed wheel locks. The key that was supplied by the PO does not work (enters lock, spins, but will not pull lock out). I tried it on all four wheels, in accordance with the owner's manual instructions, with no luck. Were these locks keyed differently for each car? Does anyone have any experience in removing them without the key?

Thanks!

Here's how mine work. Turn the key counterclockwise one turn and remove the lug nut cover with the key still inside. If you pull the key out, it won't come off.

In normal operation it appears like the key is not doing anything. In other words, you'll think it's just spinning inside. But this is how it works. I just verified it.

I found that the top part would get stuck to the actual bolt part due to dirt. A bit of force was needed. It also helped to hold the top part from spinning when the key was turned. May the force be with you young master. I left mine off for that reason.

I returned to my garage floor with the key. When I tried to pull the lock off with the key, after rotating it a bit, the key would come out without the lock, but I could feel that the lock wanted to move. Bringing a set of hemostats into the fray, I managed to pull the lock off with them while holding the key in place. Thank you jg968 & Kim for your advice and unflagging support!
