wheel crest
#1

could someone post a picture of what the paint on your wheel crest looks like? i have been refinishing my rims the past two weeks and just last night noticed that my crests could use some fresh color. it looks to me like the previous owner touched them up as well. i'm wondering if what i have is even correct at all.

picture, please!

thanks for the link, mitch. i ended up finding some pictures of caps in my copy of performance products magazine. it seems to me that there are many different kinds of wheel caps for these cars. i figured there would be one standard way they were supposed to look.

i'm pretty sure that the ones i inherited were badly hand painted by someone along the line. they even had fingerprints in the silver paint. very amateur!

the best i can figure from that wheel enhancements link you sent me is that my caps were originally just plain silver. they certainly are not polished. they have two holes in them for removal with a clip, i'm guessing.

i ended up sitting down last night for about an hour with some paint thinner and an old toothbrush and just stripping the things down to bare aluminum. i got some testor's model enamel paint and some tiny brushes and painted one up for fun. it looked really, really good. i didnt' realize that i needed white paint for the "stuttgart", so i'm going to pick that up tonight. it's actually really easy to paint these things because of all the raised detail on them.

i'll try and post a picture when i get them done.

Cool....sounds like a good rainy day project. Look forward to seeing pics. I wonder how well model paint will hold up.

good question on the paint. is there another type i should look at? i need such a small quantity, i didn't know what else to buy.

i figured that enamel was enamel.... okay, am i naive?

i'm planning on clear coating everything when it dries, too.
