wheel fitment and advice question
#1

So, can you more experienced guys verify two things:

1) That the wheels from a 1995 993 Carrera 4 will fit my '94 968.

2) That it is possible if one is careful, but without soffisticated (see I can't even spell that) equipment, to refinish these wheels. I think I've seen several posts on this topic, but I want advice on whether or not someone with minimal experience should even consider it. Then I'll go read the related posts :-)

As some of you may know from other posts, I'd like to upgrade to 17" and behold, a set with the original (not black!) finish is now for sale on the rennlist classifieds. I've asked the seller to send pics, and he sent some that must have been taken from a camera phone, they were very fuzzy, no way tell anything other then they are indeed cup wheels. I've asked for a verification of offsets as well as clearer pictures. Seller says that the wheels have some chafing around the lug openings, likely caused by the wheels falling over on their face.

There are several size and offset options. You will need to get the exact numbers from the seller. Fortunately they are cast right in the face of the wheel. If you come back with those numbers, then we can give better advice.

Painted wheels can be refinished. All you need to do is pay the man who does it.

Offset is 55, I've asked for clarification on whether that is on all 4.

How much does refinishing normally cost, and how do you find a refinisher?

Me stuck on Cup wheels - not 100%, but pretty much <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> I don't know why I like them more then the Stock 968 wheels, they ARE very similiar, but the curved face of the spokes and 17" somehow looks much better, and I like the clean look of them compared to other styles of wheels. And I don't like the twists, coming on one side and going on the other.

I'll post again tomorrow when I get confirmation on the offsets.

The offset is usually not the same front to rear. You will need the width and offset of both axles. If the seller can't supply this basic info, then run away fast from this deal.

A body shop can do wheel refinishing if you can't find a guy in the yellow pages.

He stated that the rims came off a 95 993 so in this case, the offsets are the same front and rear. The cups for the 993 are 7s and 9s all with a 55 offset and they will fit fine. You don't have to run from someone just because they don't know what they have. Sometimes you get the best deal that way. But it certainly is important to get definative answers.
