Side lower rocker panel r&r
#1

Ok, I ordered the rubber strip and all the various fasteners from Sunset. Jeff took good care of me. Now, how do I r&r this little black strip? You know, the one under the door that tends to shrink and pull out just in front of the rear wheel arch?

pretty simple job really - no need to fear this one

all the hardware mounting points are pretty obvious - there are screws along the lower edge underneath the car, and one at the very inside of the fenders, and a bunch of plastic clips along the top edge of the rockers - the clips are most easily removed using a door panel tool - be careful, they break easily

Yep, I figured that so I ordered all of them with the seal already. If I get lucky and not need them, that's fine. I just don't want to be unlucky and have to go order them after I have the car apart.

How does the new seal fit on? Pressure or adhesive or ?? From the part of mine that's undone, it looks like it is just pinched into place when the rocker is on the car.

that's how it's "supposed" to fit, but after about a year, my new one is loose again - i am going to glue it in now

I glued mine in with black silicone glue to match the rubber. Used a lot of clothes pins to hold the rubber molding until it dried overnight and installed the next day. some of my mounting points for the screws under the bottom were bent and needed to be properly realigned prior to reattaching the plastic trim. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Sounds good but I don't think this is going to be that big of a problem. Can I save this offer like a coupon? I'm thinking I could use it when I replace the flywheel or something <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Can get tricky if the panels have warped a bit. I had mine pulled and painted last year and the new rubber seals never have fit right. Looks good - much better than before - just not a perfect fit.

Tony,

Any chance of you posting the item list of what you purchased? I'd love to do this as well and have basically been procrastinating the PET process of gathering up all the part numbers. I thought I saw at one time a listing here for people getting ready for re-paint, but that included all of the various seals and gaskets and was horribly long. Are you planning the front and rear bumpers as well or just the side panels? Are you including the short piece from the front wheel to the door? Let us know how it goes.

A bit sorry to hear about the fitment issues, but then again, at 11+ years, our cars are starting to show some signs of age!

Darryl,

I am only planning on the driver's side at the moment as all else is fine. I ordered the long piece and the short piece (front wheel to door). I e-mailed Jeff at Sunset imports and told him what I was doing. He found the part #'s and all the clips, bolts, etc and set up an order. Once I get it all, I can get the part #'s off the invoice and pub here. Also, since I didn't find this info in the DIY section, maybe I can write this up as my first contribution.

Tony,

How much did the driver side pieces cost? I was going to have my Porsche mechanic change mine but I may just do it myself.

I just bought the seals (strips) from Paragon. I forget the exact cost, but between $40-60 for all four pieces.
