wheel cleaning
#1

I was wondering if anyone had used eagle mag etching on clearcoat wheels. I have a set of badly brake dusted wheels and nothing is getting them clean. p21 gel does nothing as well as several other wheel cleaners.

NOOOO!!!!!! Do not use that stuff on your wheels!!! Way to corrosive...

If you have a ton of nasty brake dust baked on - best thing to do is pull the wheel off the car. Then use some tar remover of your choice and lot's of scrubbing with a stiff brush. If you use the little green sponges from the kitchen with the scrubby pad, that might scratch the wheel.

Once you've gotten it clean, put a couple of coats of good hard wax on them.

Then each time you wash the car, wash the inside of the wheels completely with the same soap you wash the car with. Use a different rag of course! I use a microfiber towel and it works great!

Here's a pic of my wheel:

Simple Green on a long bristle brush made to clean wheels works for me.

did mine last weekend. needed to use some gasoline on a rag to soak the stuff off. they probably hadn't been cleaned in 12 years. look great now. waxed then afterward. the whole thing took 3 hours total.

Once you get them clean, try Michelin's new BRAKE DUST REPELLENT. I tried it and it works well enough. The wheels look like 2-3 days of brake dust after 7 days. It make my DD look reasonable until she gets the chrome shoes cleaned on the weekend.
