Access Panels Inside Wheel Well Gone Missing
#1

In the past 18 months I've had the power steering high pressure hose (pump to rack) replaced and here more recently the air conditioning system conversion from R12, including, of course, a new compressor. The other day I pulled a front wheel for a minor maintenance issue and noticed the plastic access panel that exposes the compressor was absent. Checked the other side, where a similar panel hides the power steering pump (haven't we all been there?) Also missing. Called the AC shop, nah, they didn't have the panels, and then the private Porsche/Ferrari shop that did the hose replacement. Same response. Now I'm in the market for replacements. First question, are the panels on 944s identical? Second, a good source of these panels. By the way, I lost my radiator in North Carolina a number of years back and ended up at a Porsche dealership, where the car sat for a week or so. I paid my bill and came back down to Florida. Some time later I raised the hood and realized I could see my garage floor. The plastic portion of the under panel was totally absent, and the rear aluminum section was hanging on the two threaded studs on either side and unattached at the front. Fortunately, the dealer's wrenchers had kept the panel and it was shipped to me and reinstalled.

this kind of thing makes me nuts. lazy mechanics take them off to make things easier, not realizing what effects that has on the running of the car, and in this case negative temperature effects

Yep, the first thing I check when looking at a 968 is the under engine pans... these were usually the first things thrown away by the dealer mechanics when the car came in for service! If you have a low miles pristine example, you are lucky to still have the pans and the access panels... I happened to be into the wheel wells of my 94 this afternoon, and was relieved to see the access panel covers still solidly in place!

I replaced both under engine panels on my 92, direct from Porsche, but again that was about 6 years ago, so no idea if still available now....

Lucky to still have all three under-belly pans, but no thanks to the mechanic who didn't screw the rearmost one back on very well during my last visit. It was hanging from the two studs, and maybe half a thread of the one remaining nut.

I am missing two of the "nut/clips" for the rear most belly pan. Anyone know where I can get them?

are you talking about the sheet metal clips that sheet meta screws go into to connect the metal tray to the center plastic one?

if so, they are pretty standard clips. i'm sure i have about 100 of them lying around here.

Still wondering if the 944 has identical access panels.
