water pump stud re-install
#1

After daily squirts of pb-blaster and judicious application of heat to the block - I've backed out all but one of the corroded water pump studs. And the fourth one moved a little yesterday so I'm sure that one's coming out today.

944online sells a nice package of replacement studs, by the way. These studs are not listed in the PET.

Question: these penetrate through the block to the water jacket. The factory applied *something* to the threads - which certainly behaves like threadlocker rather than anti-seize. What do you guys think is the right goop for the job given the potential for corrosion and leaks? I'd normally apply a little Optimol TA.

Use Loctite "Gasket Eliminator" (518) on the fasteners. The ultimate set up is to use stainless fasteners, making the next water pump far easier. Don't use anti-seize, it is not a sealant.
