washer fluid alert
#1

what brilliant porsche engineer decided to make the warning light for what has to be the most insignificant

thing in any car, one of the most prominently displayed alerts on the instrument panel ?!

they could have had a small, orange or yellow symbol somewhere along the sides of the gauge, but nooooo; they place it at the very top of all other warning lights, running across the entire gauge and in bright red letters, as if it was more critical than oil levels or charging system or brake fluid, and dwarfing the obviously less important "check engine" light which rests meekly at the bottom of the gauge! Yeah, that's logical.

so those of us driving at night and who happen to see this light appear ( for the first time ever ) can go into a state of panic thinking the variocam chain just snapped or some other similar disaster is looming..

yes, ok, so I need reading glasses and the letters spelling washer fluid were not entirely clear, but come on, you're going 80 or whatever on a highway at night and suddenly a large @&# red alert comes on the panel to warn you...that your windex mix might need a refill ?!

incidentally, I had topped off the washer container earlier that afternoon, so it's apparently sensing there is too much liquid, not lack thereof. I took a bit of it out with a baster and the " WARNING - TURN OFF ENGINE IMMEDIATELY OR YOUR CAR WILL EXPLODE !!" light is off again .

LOL! I never had mine come on, but when it does I'll be sure to keep calm and avoid crashing the car while I try figuring out what is causing my engine to explode

Wow, that IS weird. Has anyone ever gotten this message for the fluid being low? I've never filled mine (don't use it a whole lot, for whatever reason), so I'm beginning to wonder...

mine is pretty low at the moment and only comes on when i accelerate hard.

so it's kind of like a warning that i'm going too fast

and it always gives me a little panic when i see it come on too.

Audi has it even worse. Not only do they have an automated little lit emblem, but a loud as hell alert. I remember when it first scared the hell out of my wife. She stopped the car and called me thinking the car was going to implode. God only knows what it does if you were low on oil!!

Similar thing happened to me on a Jaguar XJ6. I noticed a "Heat" alert had lit up on the dash...since it was my Father-in-Laws car and I didn't want to be expelled from the family I immediate pulled over to the side and shut the engine down, the symbol remained and I began to panic...I pulled out the owner's manual and...Defrost was on.

WHEW!

lol

I didn't know that the bottom orange block on our fuel meters lit when low. I've never fallen much below a 1/4 tank before and was quite surprised to see it light up. No panic though as the light is in a logical place.
