Waiting a while after changing battery
#1

I had the battery replaced the other day.

I went to start the motor. It cranked over but would not start.

I rang the local roadside assistance organisation, which took about 30 minutes to arrive.

During that time, I didn't try to start the car.

When the mechanic arrived, the car started first time.

Anybody know what might have caused me to need to wait a while?

Sounds like a flakey DME Relay. This is by far the most common issue on our cars when they will turn over but not fire. It can be very intermittent. Could be coincidence with the battery change, or perhaps is was just enough of an electical catalyst to cause the issue. DME relay's are very inexpensive an we should all carry a spare. The relay is in the fuse box under the hood. If that is your issue, it's a $20-30 part and a 10 second fix.
