View New Posts not working
#1

This has happened to me intermittently before, but now it's happening most of the time. When I select View New Posts, nothing comes up. But when I go to the main 968 Forums tab, it's clear that there have been plenty of new posts since the last time I logged in. Is anyone else having this problem? Will the software upgrade likely help? Thanks (otherwise, great site, though )

And, irony of ironies, it worked fine for me just now as well (which is how I found your post about this topic ). So for me, it appears to be intermittent. I wonder what on my end could be causing it. I've had the problem both with Internet Explorer and with Google Chrome.

could be a browser problem, or could simply be a cookies problem - the site uses cookies, so they have to be enabled - some security stuff can mess with that too

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if it was something with my anti-virus software, given that others aren't seeing the same problem.

Just checked in this morning and tried to view new post and it said no new post. Cloud, you are not the only one having this problem.

what do you have it set on? (unread content or since last login?)

are cookies enabled?

also, realize that the tab needs to be set on "forums" - the new content search tool now has the ability to search different areas for new content - if it set on "members", for example, and there are no new members, then it will say "no new content" - but, if you set it on "forums" and hit "view new", then it could show new posts

How can you tell whether you have it set on unread content or since last login? For me I think it's the former, because when it's working, I can keep going back to View New Posts multiple times within the same session, and it keeps bring up the list of posts that have appeared since the last time I logged in.

I have no idea how to enable cookies.

My tab is set of Forums

The problem is highly intermittent with me, so I'm sure it's something on my end.

lol - in the announcement thread, i told everyone about the control panel, and how in "my settings" you could choose how you want it to work

cookies are a browser thing - this is essential to smooth operation of the site - you need to get into your browser settings and make sure they are enabled

I'm also having an intermittent problem with the "view new posts" feature since the site update.

The last 2 mornings I have logged in to the site, looked for new posts, and got "Sorry no new content found" even though there is a lot of new content out there.

I am using Firefox with cookies enabled, and am searching from the Forums tab. I have the "since my last visit" option selected.

My pattern has been to come to the site a few times during the day from my computer at work, running IE, where the "view new posts" feature seems to work, and then check the site the next morning from my computer at home (running Firefox) where the feature does not work.

I'll keep taking data, but something is amiss.

I believe I have seen this problem also. That's why I suggested there are too many subforums, if the 'New Posts' lets me down there are too many places to browse to in order to get caught up, so I just wait and see if new posts turn up next time. It could be a problem if I peek at the forum with my phone but do not read much, when I come back with a full browser I lose all the posts I did not read when I visited with the mobile browser. Something like that.

while i'm not saying there isn't a problem, and i have had this conversation with them, and they know that there is an issue they have not yet resolved, but frequently this is a cookies thing - check your cookies setting - if it isn't right, the feature won't work right - start there

but there is nothing i can do at this point

if you suspect there is new content you have not read, and want to read it, click on "today's content" at the bottom on the index page, and then use the drop down menu in the lower right corner of the resultant page to set the time frame

If it's not working, you can use the Today's Active Content link from the bottom of the front page. http://www.968forums.com/index.php?app=c...&do=active

The View New Posts goes by posts that are new since you logged in, so if you logged out, or changed IP's/Devices which would cause a log out, the view new posts will reset. I saw that alot last week when I was traveling and using my BlackBerry primarily which changes IP's.

Yes, same scenario here Jamie. I was going to post something the other day about it. I get some new content but if I want to check new posts for the day I have to scroll through the subjects. I have firefox. I am adjusting my browser setting to see what happens.

Yes, active content is working. This AM I got "Sorry, no new content found." and the board told me my last visit was concurrent with my current visit, so maybe that is why it thinks there is nothing new.

I'm no technical whiz, but I think that everytime you log in from a different device, it treats you as if you have never signed on before. No new content is available, because it does not recognize that you were ever there in the first place. The tip for checking the last 24 hours is good, but if you don't sign in for a week, and then use a different device to sign in to the forums, you will not see all of the activity you have missed.

Of course, this could be a "plot" to make sure everyone checks the forum board at least once every day! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

there is a drop down menu to the right of the bottom that allows you to select the time frame, all the way to a year

does nobody read the announcements?
