Being told I'm not able to accept new messages (IM's)
#1

I've been told by several members who have tried to IM me that they get a message stating that I'm not able to accept new messages. But the funny thing is that it's not happening with everyone - I've exchanged IM's with at least one other member recently with no problems that I'm aware if. I've deleted at least a hundred old messages, but that didn't seem to help. I've looked through every page of my settings options, and can't find anything that seems to pertain to this problem. Any ideas? Thanks.

I just tried to send you one. got this "The member Cloud9...68 cannot receive any new messages"

I looked at my content and saw this on the left column

<p class="ipsSideBlock" id="folder_list">

Folders

  1. [Image: folder_page.png] New 0

  2. [Image: email_go.png] My Conversations 13

  3. [Image: folder.png] Drafts 0

Storage

Your messenger storage

13%

13% of your quota (100 messages)

You probably have to delete some conversations......

Got the same message, it let me create the message, but when I sent it, it said that you could not accept any messages at this time.

Thanks for testing my ability to receive messages (or lack thereof). I deleted a ton of old conversations about a months ago, and it doesn't seem to have helped.

What does it say your quota is under the Storage area on the messages page?

Bansitsc,

As usual, you nailed it. I checked my quota, and it still told me I was over my limit, despite having deleted many dozens of conversations. So I deleted a bunch more, to where I now have a whopping 10 conversations, and with this, it says that 57% of my quota is filled. So at least I should be able to receive messages now. But it says my quota is 100 messages, so something is wrong. I deleted all my notifications as well, but it's still telling me that I'm at 57% of my quota. Could one of the admins please take a look at this?

The way to find out how you are doing toward your message quota is by clicking on the Messenger icon, which is the icon that's shaped like an envelope near the top of the screen, and selecting "View all messages." Your number of conversations and quota are displayed on the right.

Inked,

I cleared my browser (Chrome)'s cache for the past week, but I'm still seeing that I'm at 57% capacity.

Thanks.

I have 13 messages in my inbox - for 14% of my 100 messages...I am assuming it is not the quantity of messages that is throwing you as it is the size of the messages....ie. the number of replies and responses within each message that is holding you up.

If you have photos in the messages, that will fill it up even faster....

I would bet a dollar I am right on this one..Maybe send Flash or Jay a PM...

Just some thoughts...

sorry to hear about Chrome - lol....all I see online are problems with chrome...I use firefox and rarely have it crash...

there is no size limit or field to alter on PMs. it's only a message limit of 100 at that member level

i want my sawbuck

p.s. - i have PMs turned off, so nobody can send me one. i hate those things. i spend enough time as it is with people who respond to the email they get when they have their notifications turned on, instead of actually logging on and responding to the PM. pain in the butt.

Problem solved - I ended up having to delete all my old communications twice. I deleted them all once a few weeks ago, and when I went back to check on their status, all the ones I had deleted were still visible, but with a red "deleted" message in their description. I had thought they were considered deleted, and thus not actually counting as part of my allotment. So then I tried deleting all of these previously deleted communications again, and this time they disappeared, and I show as having my quota only 4% used. So I should be able to receive messages again.
