Ventilation / Climate fan stopped working
#1

Hi,

My first Porsche, my first problem, but hopefully not very hard I hope.

My car had everything working well, but today I wanted to cool down the interior but when inturned on A/C and then the ventilator speed to 1, 2, 3, or 4, the fan simply does not work. I checked the fuse Nr 14 and it is ok. Any hint?

A/C does start, but fan won't work.
Many thanks for any help!!!

As with most cars there is a resistor pack that controls the fan. If it isn't the fuse then I would look into PET and find where that fan pack is and check that with an Ohm meter. There will be fairly low resistances so you will need a decent meter. Usually only one or 2 speeds go as the resistors are wired in a matrix but who knows with Porsche.

When the Fan Ballast goes you get off and 4 (full blast). But, just in case.... Its a quick and cheap fix.

Thanks guys, I am now scared the hell by your feedback, as both stuff seem hard specially for someone like me without ANY experience.

Anyhow, as ALL speeds do not work, may this be due to somethng else?!A relay?
Just to complete the diagnostic, this failed just after I was changing the interior light bulb from the dome light and the fuse was gone. Replaced that fuse (Nr 8 I believe) and light is back. But now the fan won't work...

Do you think something may be related with this event?

Hi,

I still did not have the guts to check the resistor - can anyone help me on how to measure it? I have a full hand voltimeter, so i believe i can take measures in Ohms. Just need help on how to do it... where to apply the measuring tips, car on or off, etc.

On the other hand, my ventilation does not work at ANY speed - even at full (4) speed. It seems that if it was a bad resistor, it would still work at maximum speed, right?

What about relays... are there any relays related with this operation? How can i check for a bad relay?

Thanks again to all that can help me here...

Finally managed to fix it!

As none of the blower speeds were working, I suspected it could be the relay...
Bingo! Replaced relay Nr 1 and it works again!

Good news. I haven't looked at the cct diagram yet so I wasn't aware of any relay. Hope they are always going to be this easy.

Tanks! I also wish all problems turn out this easy, but I have to be mentally prepared for major PITA issues, as that is to be expected I the future!

Just wanted to share this experience, hopefully to help someone with the same issue. Documented stuff is really easy to spot and follow.
