Lately my 968 seems a bit slow. I cannot pull away from my VR6 Jetta(A3) and my son says my exhaust is black and smells. Definitely too rich it seems. Ihave no codes showing and the o2 sensor was replaced about a year ago. Looking under the hood today, I saw oil deposited on the cam cover definitely coming from the variocam unit. Does leakage cause a pressure drop in the unit that prevents or diminishes its function? Are there seals that can be replaced to rectify the issue? I would not expect the richness to be related to the variocam issue and I think that could be affecting the performance as well. I will probably end up going to the dealer( Holberts). I am looking for thoughts and suggestions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The car is a 94 with 125,000 miles. I have had it for 3 years and put 21,000 miles on it and it has been trouble free thus far.
