VarioCam Actuating Solenoid and other stuff
#1

Nevermind this post, I just researched using one word instead of several and found all of the info I needed. I do not know how to delete this post. Sorry for the duplication.

Reading a great article in 911&Porsche World and it says the following "its not uncommon for the variocam actuating solenoid to fail which causes the car to be way down on power, but still run normally". Any idea what this is and if it is true what would I do to fix it? I ask because I have an 86 944 turbo and it seems to have way more power than the 968, so I am thinking this might be the reason.

Also the article says this ""no less important is the condition of the single row chain by which the exhaust camshaft drives the inlet camshaft, and the two sprockets over which it passes, you have to remove the camshaft cover to have a look inside". Has anyone done this and do you have any advice?

I've done the "search" on here, just looking for anything new or different.

My car has 93k and the last full belt change was done at 70k, but not much else, so I am planning on a full belt/roller change and other stuff if necessary to get ready for the summer season.

Two things can help you diagnose Variocam operation.

1. You should feel distinct power surge at 4200rpm on up

2. You can drive car and then unplug Variocam electrical connector and drive again. There should be a noticeable loss of power from 4200rpm on up. If it feels the same either way you have a malfunction
